I love The Bird’s Nest and try to make all the sales. Thanks to my SIL, Tracy Housner-Quesenberry for driving me. They have amazing items. Go follow them.
Thank me later!
I’ve been searching for several years now for a vintage mid-century Style House Santa mug to add to my modest Santa mug collection . I was the closest I’ve ever been to securing one yesterday morning. It was actually a small pitcher but good enough. I nervously decided to start standing in line at 10 p.m. the night before. The sale began at 9 a.m. yesterday morning. So, I basically camped out for a ceramic mug. Silly, I know. The last time I camped out for anything was in 1978 or 79 for Cars tickets. Doing it when you are 18 is much, much different than when you are 65! This type of mug is not easy to find. There has been one listed online for $200.00 in the past. Ridiculous. I’ll pay up for one but I’m not dumb. I forgot to add I was 3rd in line. They arrived at 4 pm! I soon found out the pair were the owners of Bittersweet House Antiques of Northwest Arkansas. I follow them on Instagram. You should too if you love vintage holiday items. I should have packed up my reclining gravity lounger (which I had borrowed from Evan and Katie) and left. But, I still had a tiny bit of hope and also wanted to pick up some holiday items for our upcoming Vintage Christmas sale. I had told my niece Sara Abel about the sale. She loves all things vintage holiday. She drove from Texas and joined me in line at about 5 a.m. Two unhinged Walkingstick gals in line for old Christmas items. My nerves didn’t allow me to sleep, Sara of course either because she’d been driving. My dear, sweet husband Chris Bird brought breakfast at 7 a.m. and stood in line with us to help secure some other items I had spied. We scurried in at 9 am to our items. Mine was already in Taylor’s (of Bittersweet House Antiques) hand. I sighed, he apologized. Deflated, I continued on gathering delicious items, some for resale and a few for me. I was surprised by my son Evan Bird and my daughter in law Katie Bird. They came to the sale to help me load! After, around noon, without lunch Sara convinced me to go to the Tulsa goodwill bins. I’d never been and she is a very successful thrifter. But, on the way the best thing happened. Taylor called and told me my entire family had asked to buy the mug from him for me! It wasn’t for sale. But in that moment I realized I’d already won the lottery of life! My family and friends had tried to get that damn silly mug for me. Robert Reeves of The Pesky Pig (another person to follow) had looked inside to figure out which room it was in and told me he would sn**ch it for me if he got there first. I got home about 5 pm. I passed out and woke up this morning feeling happy and grateful without a style house Santa mug. I have great love and that really is all I need.
