Authentic wicker never goes out of style❣️ We rescued this early 20th Century piece from a yard sale & countless coats of paint. Now with a new coat of ivory and Perennials cushions - it is headed for a lovely room overlooking Narragansett Bay. Peruse Weatherlydesign.com for more unique finds in antiques, estate jewelry & vintage textiles. , ,

Inspiring seminar! Thank you to for organizing this public forum on sustainability and adaptive reuse. I might have sacrificed a beautiful day outdoors but gained practical knowledge and helpful contacts. Recycling/Reuse are historic traits - especially for island communities such as ours. We need to rebuild these habits - wherever we call home. , ,

Like many of you - my friends, colleagues, and interested readers, I approach this 250th Anniversary of the United States looking for hope & meaning in spite of these troubling times.

I find myself circling back to the source - the Declaration of Independence. Not because it is an honest mirror of our history … The truths the founding fathers found self evident - that all men are created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights among which are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness - defined a very select group in the 18th Century; a group of educated white men with property.
Regardless that the signers included staunch abolitionists as well as committed slave owners - for the sake of agreement - certainly no people of color, native Americans nor women featured as possessing “unalienable rights”.
Those rights have been long fought throughout our history and fraught with contradictions.
Yet, one can also see this Declaration as a virtuous roadmap: a living, evolving pledge to which we give voice each year - ever striving towards that more perfect union.

2026 heralds big plans for Weatherly Design. Starting with a renovation this winter, we are subdividing the large loft @ 1 Federal Street into three separate offices; and, very pleased to share the space with builder, Michael Sweeney and architect, Ethan McMorrow. Both are longtime island residents and well respected professionals. With WD’s retail now completely virtual at weatherlydesign.com, my focus for the new office is continuing our residential & commercial interior design work both on-island and beyond. You can also reach us through our Boston address at 66 Beacon St - and always through email or by phone - in bio. , ,
