When renovating a newer home, one of our goals is often to create a stronger sense of establishment, individuality, and character. In many ways, that was the vision for our Oak Brook project… a contemporary yet warm interpretation of classic, enduring design.

This project was phased in alignment with our clients’ timing and priorities, with the first installation taking place last January and the second just recently finished. We’re so excited to share the recent updates to this space and reflect on how beautifully this home has come together over the last two years!

An introduction to Colonial Goes Contemporary.

One of the defining ideas that guided this project was the belief that a home can feel just as elevated while still being shaped around the rhythm of everyday family life.

The design introduces a softer contemporary perspective through layered materiality, natural light, and a few unexpected details that give the home a collected, lived-over-time feel. We love the way each space was designed to feel connected through integrated architectural elements and a custom approach that carries throughout the home. More to come very soon as we wrap up the construction phase. ✨

Traveling and exploring new places is endlessly inspiring as a designer, but just as impactful for me is the level of hospitality behind it all.

Something that stayed with me most about our trip to Anguilla was how seamlessly the experience was shaped through design. With Kelly Wearstler at the helm, every detail was considered, yet nothing felt overstated. Everything works together in a way that feels natural, creating a sense of ease where you just feel taken care of without even thinking about it.

It’s something I pay close attention to when I travel, and something that I’m always bringing back into our work, shaping the way we design for our clients so their homes feel just as effortless and intuitive to live in.
