What do you do when overlapping baseball and softball fields share a field complex that requires a lighting upgrade?
When Gainesville R-V School in Gainesville, Missouri, reached out to us, they were in the early stages of selecting new LED fixtures and crossarms to upgrade their baseball and softball fields. Here's where it got interesting…
The Challenge:
- Two overlapping, different-sized fields
- Independent lighting requirements for each field that also light up the entire complex
This meant precision planning, no spillover issues, and no dark corners. Just clean, uniform performance across the multi-purpose field.
After reviewing the layouts and the performance goals, our Product Specialist, Jeff Cesenaro, provided a recommendation.
- For the Baseball Field: (52) 600-watt industrial-grade LED flood Lights with a 45° optic and 12 crossarms
- For the Softball Field: (20) 600-watt industrial-grade LED flood Lights with a 45° optic and 4 crossarms
- Extra Precision Planning: 1 IMF Laser used to quantify beam uniformity and ensure optimal aiming accuracy
Jeff recommended a 45-degree optic due to the large outfield dimensions. The 45° optic provides more controlled lighting to maintain strong foot-candle levels deep into the field while protecting uniformity.
The result?
- Balanced infield and outfield visibility with reduced glare on the field
- Game-ready lighting for both baseball and softball fields
- A system flexible enough to run each field separately and together
