Monochromatic rooms will always be a favorite. Layering different shades of brown with different textures creates a warm and comfortable space. We mixed silk velvet, mohair, leather, steel and wood to achieve the look we wanted. The drapery is a wool blend and complements the beautiful plaster ceiling.

Using plaster on the walls and ceilings was a key element in the design. It allowed us to eliminate crown molding keeping with our design concept of simplicity and restraint. These ideas and concepts are only as good as the ex*****on and completion by the artisans who make it all happen.

is responsible for all the plaster work and did an amazing job surpassing our expectations in every way. The walls have so much texture, but are smooth as glass. We love how the light reflects off the walls bringing the outdoors in—the early morning sun shows the reflection of trees on the walls.

Lighting—artificial and natural is one of the biggest considerations in our designs if not the biggest. It impacts how we feel in a space and has an effect on us even when we don’t realize it. We opted for a glass vestibule leading to the primary suite instead of solid walls to bring in more natural light. Lindsey Adelman’s Branching Bubble fixture resembles the tree’s branches outside the vestibule.

The Private House by Rose Tarlow has always been a favorite. First printed in 2001 and now republished this year...It’s certainly a classic.
