A unique feature of the Henry Horton State Park Inn is its hybrid structural system of steel, concrete, and mass timber. The mass timber components—constructed from regional Southern Yellow Pine—will be prominently visible throughout the guest room corridors and common areas, highlighting both the warmth of the material and its sustainable qualities. This is the first state park project in the system to leverage the environmental and construction efficiencies of mass timber.

Excited to see the mass timber installation begin onsite!

It’s official! Nashville has landed its long-awaited Super Bowl!!!

The NFL today named Music City host of Super Bowl LXIV in 2030. The announcement follows a vote by NFL owners at the league’s spring meeting in Orlando.

“Hosting the Super Bowl, one of the largest events in the world, is a milestone moment for Nashville and Tennessee and reflects how far our city has come over the last several decades,” said Deana Ivey, president and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp., in the release. “This is about far more than football. It is an opportunity to showcase the creative spirit, distinctive character, warm hospitality and vibrant energy that make Music City special.”

Our team is thrilled to showcase all of the hard work and grit that has gone into the design and construction of New Nissan Stadium!! We can’t wait to show the world this amazing venue alongside our beautiful hometown.

EOA was honored to receive a Metro Historical Commission Preservation Award for the Christ Church Cathedral renovation and addition. Congratulations to our design and construction team and a heartfelt thank you to the Christ Church Cathedral building committee and ownership team for entrusting us with this Nashville treasure.

We also congratulate our fellow (EOA) award recipient Patrick Gilbert on the renovation of his personal home!

Since 1973, over 400 awards have gone to a broad range of historic structures – dwellings, churches, commercial and industrial buildings, schools, even to bridges and new developments. Nominated by the public, they are honored for their sensitivity to the original architecture and the surrounding environment, creativity in adaptation for contemporary use, architectural merit and/or historic interest, long-term maintenance, adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, and pioneering spirit. The public awards ceremony coincides with National Preservation Month, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and celebrated every year in May. The theme for Preservation Month 2026 is “All People are Created Equal” to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

It was a beautiful day to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Lodge at Henry Horton State Park, and we are honored to work alongside the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, STREAM, and park officials on this monumental project for our region.

Given the working title of “Big Sky Lodge,” the design pays homage to the park’s heritage and historic structures while complementing the newer Visitor’s Center and Restaurant buildings. The idea of “Big Sky” is expressed in the dramatic shaping of the roof and stone walls, which frame views of the sky and clearly signify the building entry. Dynamic gable forms, familiar natural materials, and extensive views into the park continue and enrich the architectural dialogue of the site. The lodge will house 76 guest rooms, each with full views of the native grasslands to the northeast and long vistas toward the Duck River, immersing visitors in the landscape that defines Henry Horton State Park.

A House with a Garden in a Garden – A University Residence and Event Center

This design of this project embodies the intricate balance between its dual role as a university focal point and a private dwelling. Inspired by Bachelard’s insights on “House and Universe,” the design strives to speak to individuals and the community alike. The act of linking yet separating the Residence from the Event Center defines clear public and private zones with their connection celebrated in form and experience. This architecture aspires to self-sustainability and ecological exploration, envisioning an eco-beta site for environmental research. The synergy between architecture, engineering, and nature is pivotal in achieving these goals.

TRILOGY | Christ Church
In developing the form of the new addition, the design sought proportional continuity with the historic cathedral without resorting to imitation. Rather than reproducing its forms, the underlying order of the existing structure was studied, its gable silhouettes, groupings of windows, and measured balance of solid and void translated through abstraction.

These elements are gathered into a contemporary façade composition that celebrates the cadence of gables, circular openings, and vertical proportions through a layered system of screens and apertures. As the elevation suggests, this sequence moves from density to light, creating a gradual release from the tectonic weight of stone toward transparency and illumination. In this way, the addition does not replicate the language of the past, but continues its grammar, allowing historic mass to resolve into a new expression shaped by light, rhythm, and time.
