William & Henry Wide Plank Floors LLC.

William & Henry Wide Plank Floors LLC. William & Henry handcrafts traditional solid and engineered wide plank floors from the finest old growth pines, hardwoods, and reclaimed woods. There can’t be.

For more than 40 years, Don Carlisle has had a passion for wood. It all began when he was a young boy working alongside his father in New Hampshire, handcrafting wide plank flooring for Carlisle Restoration Lumber, the family business his parents had started in 1972. Don Carlisle, Peter Switzer, and the entire William & Henry team have a passion for wood and sharing that passion with each customer

. They work with one customer at a time, getting to know each family, and crafting every floor by hand. Named for Don's son William Henry, William & Henry Wide Plank Floors reflects the company's commitment to creating a personal relationship with each homeowner, and with the sawmill owners and craftsmen who make the floors. There will be no other floor like the one William & Henry makes for you. The knots, the color, the sap, the grain—all are affected by the earth in which a tree grows. Each floor is one of a kind, as special as the family who lives on it.

These images show a handsome solid/select Northern Red Oak floor we made for a builder’s summer cottage along Maryland’s Eastern Shore. This material was all harvested in Vermont and shows what’s possible when using a fiber that doesn’t have the demand that White Oak currently has. The majority of this floor was 8-16’ long after milling and it has a beautiful plain-sawn grain. Scroll through to see photos from milling and selecting this specific batch of lumber this past December. This client opted for all 7” face widths which look great in their interior. We could have also created random widths between 7-11” but these folks preferred the uniformity of all one width. If you plan to finish your Oak floor with anything other than a clear or white wash look . . . select Red Oak is a great alternative to White and offers significant savings. It’s also a fun way to utilize this beautiful resource we have here in northern New England, and support our local lumber partners.

Our 12” Select Hickory and custom made waterfall stair treads make for quite the transformation in this California home overlooking the Bay. We hand select our hickory to contain a majority of heartwood even after slicing our 1/4” wear layers, which creates the more consistent milk chocolate tone our Hickory clients seek out. To that end all of this hickory lumber was sourced from one small sawmill in NY state to ensure our clients vision was delivered.

The stairs were made from 1” thick engineered stock by utilizing a fun lock miter to help aid stability and longevity. Additionally all flooring and treads were custom finished by W&H prior to delivery.

Overall this project is a great example of the custom nature of our business, and how no two clients or projects are ever the same. Cheers!

It was quite the pleasure to work on this historical project in Minnesota, which was originally built in the mid 1800’s along the St. Croix River. These homeowners seized the opportunity to make a floor as close to their original as possible . . . and these images show our 7/8” thick x 13-16-19” wide Restoration Grade Eastern White Pine. These clients also GC’d their own project and installed and finished the floors themselves alongside a local installer. A huge thanks to them for allowing us to be a part of their project 🙏🏻

As with all W&H floors . . the lumber, milling and final floor design were all created for a specific client and project, and our goal is to never make the same floor twice!

Here are a few shots of our Livesawn White Oak flooring . . . Hand-Finished by Sam and the team at the Carlisle farm in Stoddard, NH. This beauty is headed down to St. Augustine, and is the third time we’ve made this exact floor for the Sullivan family. The finish is a hand applied oil in a custom color we developed for their project alone, while the raw lumber for all three runs came from the same small family mill . . . creating this custom grade of center-cut white oak, teeming in vertical grain, and with a deep dark natural tone. Notice how tight the grain is? This is no accident, but carefully curated by W&h to create a very authentic, old world look and feel.

7/8” thick x 14” wide Eastern White Pine in random lengths up to 16” long headed to the northern shores of Lake Michigan. This client wanted an authentic looking floor and opted for our restoration grade pine, to create a turn of the century inspired look and feel in their new custom home.

All of this material was harvested-sawn-dried and custom milled in New England. Using a domestically grown and manufactured product appealed greatly to these clients . . . once they learned about the design possibilities working with our Pine floors, coupled with the superior stability they offer in extreme environments, they opted to not import an Oak floor from Denmark. Thanks for looking and installed & finished photos to follow in 2026!
