TEN. How in the world would my first born be ten today!? For those of you who don’t know our story I’ll try to fill you in.

A little over ten years ago when I was 34 weeks pregnant I was diagnosed with polyhydramnios (too much amniotic fluid). My pregnancy had been perfect. My doctor assured me it was nothing to worry about but referred me to a specialist to check on Clayton. As soon as our specialist saw the sonogram he said “this is as bad as it can be. It’s really bad.” Clayton had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. That is typically found at your twenty week ultrasound but was missed at ours. This is where the babies diaphragm doesn’t close all the way and organs that should stay below the diaphragm move through the opening and prevent heart and lungs from developing.

We had to move to Memphis as soon as we found everything out because with the extra fluid I could go into labor at anytime and Lebonheur was the only hospital that could hopefully help our baby. With our appointments at Lebonheur we found out Clayton’s heart was actually great, and his lungs were pretty good considering everything. A couple of days after moving to Memphis I did go into labor. Four days later Clayton had his first surgery and from that point on it was horrific, gruesome, and just down right terrible. He had many surgeries after that, but nothing helped him. Continued in comments.
