Overview of My Animal Portrait Painting Process:
1. Con
tact me through my email address ([email protected]) or Facebook Market Page (Martha L Dahl art) – I typically response within 48 hours.
2. Other poses, i.e., entire body and/or painted background can be negotiated for an adjusted fee.
3. Please send the following information:
• Animal’s Name and breed and a short description of the pet’s personality
• In-focus pictures close-up of the animal’s face, especially capture the eyes and nose. Three to five pictures are a good number to send. (How to take a good picture of an animal for painting follows.)
4. I will draw and paint from a picture you supply so choose the pose you want painted or I can consult on the best pose to use.
5. The painting typically can be completed in four weeks. I will give you an approximate completion date and the delivery method. (Shipping cost is extra)
6. If terms and conditions are agreed upon, a preliminary sketch will be provided for approval. Upon approval of the preliminary sketch, my contract is sent to you for execution via email.
7. At this point, you will need to sign the contract and return the contract along with one-half of the painting cost (this deposit payment is not refundable). Payment can be made through Venmo or PayPal.
8. The time frame for painting the picture is conditional upon return of the signed contract and payment received. The actual painting completion date is scheduled in accordance with other paintings already in process.
9. As I begin the art process, I will send you a picture of the completed sketch that I will use for the painting and will then update you with 2-3 progress pictures as the portrait is being completed.
• Detailing this process is important in order to provide you with the desired outcome of your pet’s painting. The sketch and progress pictures are only “in process” photos to connotate the direction and tone of the end painting, not the finished piece of art. Your feedback on these progress photos is an important part of the process.
10. Upon completion, a picture of the finished painting will be sent to you through an email. At that time the other half of the payment and shipping charged is required prior to sending you the original painting.
11. Upon receipt of payment, the portrait along with a Certificate of Authenticity will matted with archival & acid-free materials. The painting will be waterproof packaged, insured with tracking, and sent to you.

Suggestions on How to Take Good Pictures of Your Pet:
1. Ideally, take pictures of your pet outside on a cloudy day or when the sun is low on the horizon.
2. If inside is the only location option, take pictures by a large window to try to take advantage of natural light.
3. Take pictures close-up to the pet and on eye level to get a more intimate and clearer picture of your pet.
4. A little light reflected in their eyes gives a livelier expression.
5. If having a problem getting a reflection of light in their eyes, be sure the sun or light is behind you.
6. Very Important: Pictures should provide clear details of your pet’s eyes, nose and fur color. Bonus Tip: Don’t forget to brush your pet’s hair before starting to take photos.
