Confession from a candle maker: Summer is not our favorite season.
Summer means longer days, warmer temperatures, and a few extra challenges for candle makers. One of those challenges is something known as sweating.
Soy wax has a relatively low melting point, which makes it more sensitive to summer heat and rapid temperature changes. This can sometimes cause some of the natural oils in the wax to rise to the surface.
If you notice sweating, there’s no need to worry. It’s a normal characteristic of soy wax and doesn’t affect the fragrance, burn, or overall performance of the candle. The candle can be enjoyed exactly as it is, or if you prefer, any excess oil can be gently wiped away.
It’s one of the reasons we sometimes pass on outdoor events during the hottest parts of summer. A little sweating is completely normal, but we’d rather you take home a candle at its best.
Every wax has its own characteristics, and this is one of the unique qualities of 100% soy wax. For us, a little sweating is a small price to pay for a wax made from American-grown soybeans that supports farmers right here in the Midwest. 💚
