This is what happens with extreme mortar deterioration. Usually due to excessive salt and a poor mix of mortar as you can see it’s mostly sand. We tend to come across this from time to time due to someone trying to cut corners , or someone who isn’t good with their mixing ratios. But you can see how we fix the problem in the last post I put up.

Bluestone porch reconstructed due to heavy deterioration.  Front steps were settled and there was only 3 , making each step around 9 inches. We removed the steps formed up new ones and added 1, with a total of 4 so each step is symmetrically 6 inches of rise, now making it easier to walk up.
New front door and railings will soon be installed as well. 
Couldn’t match stone on the house so we wrapped the entire set of stairs in bluestone as well as underneath the door to match the rise of the treads.
Customer was super happy with the outcome, and liked it more than the original, plus it was done correctly.

Enlarged front porch from a small area you couldn’t open the door and stand on the porch at the same time. So we extended it and made it wider. Installed stone, veneer, and cap it with bluestone. Then we built this beautiful paver walkway with random pattern pavers and a nice border to complement.

Shed style roof over deck. We used existing deck removed rails, and installed new posts/footings for new roof, and gave the old deck of makeover with new steps, and addressing some rough areas making it smooth again, then a fresh coat of paint.
