2025 closed with a lot of gratitude—for the trust, collaboration, and shared work that shaped each project.
Behind every moment were thoughtful conversations, care in the details, and the people who made the work meaningful.
As we step into 2026, we’re excited for projects already taking shape, ongoing partnerships, and what lies ahead.

We’re proud and grateful to share that Studio Whynought won the AHEAD Americas 2025 Spa & Wellness Award for the Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa at Park Hyatt New York .

Recognized by the judges as “a jewel box of refinement — richly textured, elegant, and beautifully edited,” this project reflects our vision of a personal and emotionally resonant sanctuary where wellness, artistry, and design come together as one.

Deep gratitude to our incredible Whynought team, trusted partners, and clients for their collaboration and support, and to and for this meaningful recognition.

For the Shilla Monogram Gangneung Hotel project, we developed the art direction for a cascading paper sculpture that becomes the heart of the hotel lobby. Inspired by the delicate folds of fabric and the poetic flow of nature, the piece evokes the interweaving of clouds drifting across the sky or the gentle rhythm of waves—echoing the horizon framed by the lobby’s picturesq windows.

Scale and form were carefully studied through sketches, renderings, 3D model printing, and many layers to ensure the piece perfectly resonated with the space. Positioned above the seating area, its soft, curved silhouette offers guests a tranquil focal point, while seamlessly complementing the architectural lines of the ceiling. Bathed in a gentle glow from the hidden barrisol ceiling, the installation radiates a quiet elegance—bringing serenity, lightness, and a strong sense of arrival into the lobby experience.

Many don’t know the story behind Studio Whynought. The name came from a belief that sometimes the best things happen when you take a leap of faith and simply say, “why not?”

I started shaping my business during pregnancy and launched it shortly after becoming a first time mom. Our very first project, the Shilla Monogram Danang Hotel public areas, began even before all the pieces were formally in place.

This photo is from my first site visit in Vietnam — more than 20 hours of travel from LA, still recovering from childbirth, standing on a dusty construction site and holding on to belief, trust, and a strong vision for the studio and project I wanted to build.

That leap of faith shaped the beginning of Studio Whynought, and it continues to remind me that bold ideas and courage can lead to new chapters still to come!

After years of passion, precision, and creativity, the Shilla Monogram Gangneung Hotel, overlooking the stunning Anmok Beach, is now open!

We’re proud to have contributed to shaping the spaces of this destination, where timeless elegance meets breathtaking coastal views.

Seeing it come to life in person was incredibly special, and an unforgettable moment after years of collaboration and care.

Congratulations to our partners at Shilla Monogram, and thank you to everyone who helped bring this vision to life. Keep following along for more on this project soon!

Mindful of the discerning nature of Park Hyatt and Rossano Ferretti’s clientele, we designed this VIP room as a secluded space where guests can fully unwind in privacy and comfort.

Our approach to art curation begins with the work itself—sourcing custom pieces that reflect the tone, scale, and emotion we want a space to evoke. We seek out local and emerging artists whose vision aligns with the spirit of each project.

We’re also grateful to work with collaborators who share our commitment to detail. Steven Amedee Framing in Tribeca brings each piece to life through thoughtful, beautifully executed framing. They handled these Wayne Pate works with such care, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. They continue to be our go-to for every project!

As part of our artist spotlight series, we’re proud to highlight Wayne Pate, who created two custom large-scale paintings that brought a quiet depth to the serene atmosphere of the Park Hyatt New York Rossano Ferretti Hair Spa.

At the time of the project, Wayne described his work as one of restraint — a fitting sensibility for the calming, tonal palette of the space. Each canvas was created in distinct hues: Red Ochre and Warm Grey. True to his philosophy, he avoids vibrant or synthetic tones in favor of a more controlled spectrum. Wayne also applied a process he’s been evolving over several years — one he calls a “perfect balance of a painting-drawing,” and one he finally felt at ease with at this scale.

This thoughtful, iterative approach reflects the high-touch craftsmanship and collaborative spirit we deeply value at Studio Whynought.

More than just a functional zone, the shampoo area was designed as an intentional moment of calm. As the existing footprint had low ceilings, we saw this spacial constraint as a creative opportunity to create a cocoon-like space wrapped in dark lacquered paneling, where natural light reflects the eglomisé glass onto the ceiling to create subtle interest.
