Nearly 10 years ago, Luma Cove founder Jack Richter was sitting in his dorm room at the University of Colorado Boulder, staring at the exposed LED strips his roommate had installed.

He loved the warmth they brought to the room—but hated seeing the individual LEDs.

At the time, achieving seamless cove lighting meant drywall, paint, power tools, and a permanent installation. Determined to find a better solution, Jack began building his own versions out of wood and aluminum. They weren’t perfect, but the soft indirect light caught people’s attention, and the idea never left him.

After graduating, Jack became a residential lighting designer, spending years designing lighting for high-end homes while continuing to prototype and refine his vision after work and on weekends.

The product you see today is the result of nearly a decade of persistence, iteration, and an obsession with beautiful light.

At Luma Cove, the goal has always been simple: make professional-looking indirect lighting accessible to anyone—without construction, without compromise.

Because sometimes the best ideas begin by deciding to take one extra step.

We hated exposed LED strips so much... we designed a product to conceal them AND blend into your wall for a cove light aesthetic.

Introducing Luma Cove.

Indirect lighting is one of the simplest ways to elevate a space, yet it is often overlooked.

Cove lighting has long been used in high end architecture to conceal the light source entirely, leaving behind a soft, ambient glow that feels clean and intentional.

The problem is that it usually requires permanent construction and a complicated install.

The Luma Cove changes that.

Designed for both renters and homeowners, it brings this architectural lighting effect into a simple, modular system with no cutting, no plaster, and no commitment.
