I often talk about unpredictability and the importance of chance in my practice. To me, the unknown is one of the essential ingredients of the work. It fuels my curiosity, invites risk, and pushes me beyond what I can control.

When I gather soil directly from the land, I feel like I’m collaborating with a place rather than simply using a material. The landscape is no longer just an inspiration—it has become part of the work itself.

Over the last couple of months, I’ve been developing a new body of work and experimenting with glazes made from wild clays and soils I collected during my last trip to . These pieces feel very special to me, and I’m genuinely happy with how they’ve evolved. I’m excited to finally share them with you.

I’m happy and honored to share that I was invited by to participate in the 61st Venice Biennale, curated by the late Koyo Kouoh, under the theme “In Minor Keys.”

On view are two face masks that emerged from a collaborative performance I held last November .

During the performance, I invited the audience to collectively build a vessel. Everyone was welcome to participate. I asked each person to place into the clay an emotion or intention they no longer wished to carry inside. Together, we formed a container for these experiences.

The climax of the project was a deconstruction of the piece – an act of release and letting go.

Afterward, I collected and recycled the clay. From this material, I created a series of masks. Each one holds a trace of what was given: an imprint of collective feeling, transformed into form.

This work continues my interest in clay as both material and witness – something that absorbs, records, and carries memory.

The work is on the view until November 22.

Virga 01 is the first vessel in the Virga series, inspired by time spent in the desert during monsoon season, surrounded by Virga clouds.

Virga — /ˈvərgə/, noun

Rain that never touches the earth — it falls through dry air and vanishes before landing. Seen as ghostly trails beneath clouds in deserts, it is fleeting, beautiful, and symbolic of impermanence.
