It’s always the small details.

I spent a few hours wandering through New York showrooms and antique shops on my last trip, and I came home thinking about all the tiny details I noticed along the way. Whether it was the curve of a chair, a beautiful piece of hardware, the glaze on a little vessel, or the way a piece of furniture has been worn over time.

Those are the things that stay with me.

This trip was a good reminder that the details really are the whole point. They’re what make a room, a piece of furniture, or even a garment feel special. You might not notice them right away, but they’re usually the reason you keep thinking about something long after you’ve left.

I wrote a little more about my day in New York, the things I found, and the Gianni Versace jacket I’m still kicking myself for leaving behind in this week’s Substack, The Details Are the Whole Point.

Most people look at the top of an antique. I want to see what’s underneath.

That’s where you’ll find the clues: joinery, hardware, construction and repairs.

Then step back. Look at proportion, silhouette and scale. A piece can be beautiful on its own and still be wrong for the room.

When we source for clients, we’re already placing the piece in the space before we buy it, measuring it, drawing it into the floor plan, checking its height against surrounding pieces, and considering its visual weight, condition and function.

That’s the designer part: we’re not just asking, “Do I love this?” We’re asking, “What does this do for the room?” Does it add contrast? Patina? Warmth? Does it balance what’s already there?

And don’t shop with blinders on. Some of our best finds are things we weren’t looking for.

Save this for your next antique fair.

Our October moodboard 🤎

Having spent part of my career in the Ralph Lauren collections department, I still find myself looking at fashion the same way I look at a room. The mix of color, texture, pattern, something a little unexpected. The Ralph Lauren Fall 2026 Collection has it all: deep browns, worn leather, tailored pieces, and layers that feel collected.

I’ve always loved when the things around you, whether that’s what you wear, what you collect, or what you bring home, all feel like part of the same story.

Follow along on Pinterest for inspiration, from what I’m wearing to what I’m putting in a room.

My mum has a way of making ordinary days feel special.

Growing up, she taught me that it wasn’t necessarily the big things that mattered, but the little details that made people feel thought of. She made people feel special, and I think that lesson has stayed with me in more ways than I realized.

Now, as a mum to Rhodes, I find myself wanting to give him that same feeling.

For his second birthday, I was reminded that creating something beautiful doesn’t have to mean making everything perfect. Sometimes it’s the wedding tablecloth you’ve saved, flowers from the garden, and a house full of people you love.

Rhodes may not remember any of those details, but I hope he remembers how it felt to be celebrated.

I wrote a little more about that in this week’s Substack, The Things We Make Beautiful for Them.

A return to one of my favorite projects, the Basket House.

In her new book, “Homemaking with Babs”, now a New York Times Number 1 Bestseller, Babs writes:

“Blair Moore of Moore House Design transformed the Basket House from a centuries-old building into a liveable, beautiful home for the twenty-first century. Each choice she made honored the house’s history while capturing the warmth and spirit we envisioned.”

Congratulations again, BABS . We are so happy to have been a small part of the Basket House story.

I still think about living in New York all the time.

When I moved there to study fashion at Parsons, I was looking at everything through a different lens. I was learning about proportion, texture, color, and craftsmanship in the classroom, but some of my favorite lessons happened outside of it.

I’d walk the same streets every day and somehow keep finding something new: a beautiful old doorway, a strange little shop, the way someone had put an outfit together.

New York was this constant mix of old and new, beautiful and imperfect, unexpected and familiar. Fashion, architecture, interiors, people, they all seemed to influence one another.

Looking back, I realize how much of my eye was shaped during those years. I didn’t move through the city thinking, this is going to influence how I design someday. I was simply looking, noticing, remembering.

And I still do.

This week on the Substack, I’m sharing a little more about my time at Parsons, living in New York, and the things I brought with me long after I left.

I’ve always been drawn to character and craftsmanship.

Growing up on a cattle farm in Australia, I spent most of my time outside, surrounded by acres of land where nothing stayed pristine for long. Things weathered, wore down, were repaired, and became more beautiful for it. I think that contrast between the wildness of the landscape and the simplicity of the interiors I grew up around stayed with me.

My time in fashion sharpened that eye. Studying textiles and working with craftsmen, artisans, and luxury materials taught me to pay attention to construction: the way something is stitched, or the detail you only notice when you look a little closer. I carry that same instinct into interiors today. Sometimes that means choosing a vintage piece with a little patina, and sometimes it means standing in front of a blank canvas and throwing a few lines of paint onto it simply because the room needs something unexpected.

I love a beautiful room, but never really a perfect one. Perfection can make a space feel finished before it has had the chance to become personal. I want rooms to evolve, to show a little age, a little history, and a little bit of the person living in them. Every piece should have a reason for being there, but not everything needs to match or make perfect sense.
