Exploring Scotland is like stepping back through history. Around every corner, you’ll find some of the most beautiful buildings, castles, and grand estates, now standing silent and abandoned.
It’s incredible to think that many of these places fell into ruin because of the old roof tax. For some owners, maintaining these huge buildings became impossible, so they removed the roofs to avoid paying the tax. Sadly, once the roofs were gone, the weather quickly took over, and what were once magnificent homes slowly began to crumble.
Standing here today is both heartbreaking and beautiful. Heartbreaking because you can only imagine the lives, laughter, and memories these walls once held. Beautiful because nature has reclaimed what was left behind, wrapping these forgotten places in greenery and reminding us that, in the end, nature always has the final say.
