The Fish Building

The Fish Building The Fish Building is an Art Deco building, one block away from The Bronx Museum of the Arts, at 1150 Grand Concourse.

It is one of the most interesting and beloved apartment buildings on this avenue, and appropriately named because of the aquarium mosaic flanking the entrance to the building. My intention is to recognize this building and its murals, giving a new appreciation in a fine art setting by replicating some of the buildings interiors at The Bronx Museum of the Arts (elevator doors, floor design, etc.).

I seek to highlight its hidden virtues and values, so that this neglected art deco piece may flash with the iridescent grace and splendor I believe it deserves. I will collaborate with the building’s tenants to revive this Art Deco piece. By intervening these sites I seek to expand the exhibition at The Bronx Museum by adding this new space and by creating a dialogue between them. Gabriela Bertiller
