I’ve been a little quiet on socials the last few weeks, as I’ve been in New Zealand spending time with my Dad during his final days.
For those of you who don’t know, my Dad is Frank, the name behind Frank Designs. Frank Green actually, but no, not the guy behind the water bottle… otherwise I might be floating around the Med with a glass of champers right now 😜.
On Friday we gave Dad a Celebration of Life instead of a Funeral, because Dad never said no to a good party…the apple didn’t fall far! I reckon he had a serious case of FOMO watching so many of his family and friends come together to celebrate such a top bloke. He’d have been first to the bar and last to leave.
Dad gave me my love of architecture, especially Mid-century. He always dreamed of being an Architect. He was a true DIYer, a serial renovator and could always be found tinkering in the garage. So when I was naming my business 15-odd years ago, it felt right to name it after him, since he never got to chase that dream himself. I’ll never forget his grin when I told him, it was one of those smiles where you just know someone is pretty chuffed.
To this day, new emails still land addressed to “Dear Frank…” it gets me every single time, but jeez do I love it…it’s like a little G’day from Dad.
I’m going to miss you heaps, Dad. I’ll keep designing for you. 💚
The first house Dad designed and built back in the 70s…he obviously knew what he was doing as it stood the test of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
He then went on to renovate this two bedroom brick bungalow into a five bedroom family home for us. I’m the little one, in the far back right!
Never far from his side!
Cheers Dad! 😆
Frank Green…my Dad 💚
