AREA’s lounge chair, chair A-29 “KABUTO,” has received an Honorable Mention at the DNA Paris Design Awards 2026.
It has also been selected as a Featured Finalist in the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2026.
The design of chair A-29 “KABUTO” has been recognized by two prestigious international design awards that bring together outstanding work from around the world.

The rounded form of this lounge chair was originally inspired by a distinctive helmet worn by samurai in medieval Japan. Ultimately, the design was conceived to achieve two distinct effects: a modern aesthetic reminiscent of 1970s science-fiction films, and a snug yet gentle sense of comfort that puts the sitter at ease.
Functional, mechanical task chairs certainly have their place, but this chair is intended for spaces that call for a sense of calm, offering a quiet refuge where one can simply settle in and feel at ease.
