Y'know what they say…

A flower a day keeps the flu away!

While nursing my family back to health, i've had the pleasure of touching flowers in different ways every day this week:

1. Beginning Passover preparations with Primrose Flower Shoppe 🇮🇱
2. A beautiful pastel Easter mix for weddings personals class. New York Botanical Garden
3. After a 14 hour day, I still had to stop and appreciate the daffodils newly blooming in my garden.
4. Treated myself to some fabulous ranunculus for my birthday.
5 & 6. Home stretch of Pesach prep.
7. Invasive lesser Celandine blooming in my local park. 🤔 NGL, somewhat tempted to pull these up, but honestly, I should probably get to work on my own garden first!

What better way to celebrate the Equinox than with a wedding full of Spring flowers!?

This couple chose to have each bridesmaid hold a different monofloral bouquet, so I made all of the boutonnières slightly different to match!

Participating in NYBG's Orchid Dinner was amazing for many reasons. I got to pay homage to my home, exercise creative freedom and meet a design challenge, and celebrate what makes New York so amazing- its diversity, resilience & vibrance.

My immediate first thought was to emulate the cityscape; plexiglass has a really unique way of reflecting light & can have sharper edges than glass sometimes, so i had custom columns made.

's Orchid Show theme is "Concrete Jungle," emulated here with a variety of tropical flowers, orchids growing out of their containers and stems that are bent, much like sometimes us New Yorkers can be.

But in response- art! The art of floristry, graffiti, which has been part of New York forever, and the art of self-expression. The second detail I knew would be incorporated was a graffiti style "NYC," which I asked my brother, an FDNY member, to draw for this. When work exposed him to unhealthy extremes, he started drawing graffiti. The creative practice helped him through (and still does.)

As with my brother looking after his mental health, I'm proud of this city's complexity and ability to always continue blooming.

This one meant a lot to me. Thanks for witnessing the ride.

Although I sketched some ideas for Orchid Dinner months ago, played around with collages and checked combinations with friends, it's never certain how flowers are going to play together until you see them in person.

Grouping the stems by color family is a helpful way to appreciate all the elements, since once the get onto the table they will be an eclectic, colorful and diverse mix- just like the city we love.

And as several colleagues have said, you can't ever have too many flowers!

I'm so psyched to share some big news! This year, I was invited to design a table for annual orchid dinner! Today I picked up flowers, and here's a preview!

In class on Friday, we played with what I call, "Millenial Floral Style," what social media embraced in the late Aughts. A mass floral style, rather than include greens, this design often incorporates dried, dyed & preserved stems. "Millennial Pink" was the color of 2010, a dusty rose shade considered gender neutral that kept the more structural style visually peaceful and inviting.

DM me if you'd like to explore this style & more!

How dark & moody do you like your photos? One of the tricks to a photo that emulates still-life paintings is to bring the exposure way down. It works well with these primary colors, (another characteristic of still-life paintings.)

Which photo do you prefer?

Just a quick video introducing Oblong Egg cage, which fits perfectly in an oval compote for a stunner of an arrangement!

Would you like to see a sped up video of stems going into the container, or a carousel of the finished design?!
