F O Design

FO Design was founded in 2002 by New York interior designer Felicitas Oefelein. Ms. Oefelein founded her own high-end interiors firm, F.O. DESIGN, in 2002.

Raised in Germany, Felicitas Oefelein was trained as a classical furniture maker/designer before she received her BFA at Parsons, the New School for Design in New York City. She then went on to work for the international interior design firm LBDA and taught interior design classes with a focus on materials and finishes for Parson’s BFA program for 6 consecutive years. Since then she has had the op

portunity to work on a wide range of of residential and commercial projects. These range from New York City apartments and lofts to family homes in the Tri State Area and vacation homes on Long Island, in the Caribbean, Florida and on the Jersey Shore. Oefelein has also had the opportunity to design several office and showroom spaces. In addition to being sole owner of F.O. DESIGN, Ms. Oefelein is also a partner in HomeDesignRx, a company geared towards smaller projects. After nearly 20 years as a Manhattan resident Ms. Oefelein relocated her home and office to Brooklyn in 2012. She now works and resides in trendy Red Hook where she enjoys the proximity to the City, Long Island and a greatly expanded office space. Ms Oefelein is personally involved in each project, taking into consideration her client’s individual needs, budgets and schedules.

Almost thirty years ago this beautiful room and home was designed by Joseph Lembo and Laura Bohn Design for a client in Loveladies New Jersey. I had my first job out of college with Lembo Bohn Designs and it is a privilege to have client relationships that last for decades. Today house at the shore impeccable and almost unchanged in its classic, timeless look. I recently went back because a few small things need attention. The sofas which were done by Kenny Flam in the Bronx needed new fills inside the seats. Otherwise they are still mint! Today I work with Nesco Upholstery & Design and we chose foam with a thick Dacron wrap for softness and stability. Let’s see if this holds up for another few decades. 🫧

As designers we get to dream up fun things like 2.5” thick island counters, 17’ long in quartz by . Our fabricators have to deal with the dilemma on how to make our dreams come true. in New York maybe tiny compared to in Milan but the parties and product introductions are great fun especially because our friends and partner companies are here. ✨✨✨🥂🥂🥂 what a great week with introducing their new product 🌱✨ . with at the was a spectacular event as well. And of course at on the weekend. Now we need a long weekend to take a break.

Award day with the and at the . My category this year was outdoor furniture and I have my award to for their innovative, creative and sustainable use of 3D printing technology! Well done ✨✨ other awards went to and we awarded best in show to for their micro mosaic which is made from recycled cathode Ray glass tubes in Ragusa - Sicily . What an amazingly beautiful product. Some things are worth waiting for. Rietvelds Utrecht chair was designed almost 100 years ago. To me the design looks contemporary even today.

Spring in Milan is a design dream come true! I feel so energized being at the heart of the action, connecting with fellow creatives and industry leaders, and tapping into the global creative pulse! Plus, I was thrilled to see 's showcase this year! My Alma Mater ❤️ always impresses, and this year's exhibition tackled topics close to my heart, like multi species living, climate change, urban planning, and food as a powerful symbol of community and resistance!

and impressions from Milan: this year's highlights include sustainability, biophilia, organic shapes and colors, and unconventional materials. Noticeably absent are black and white. Earthy tones like ochre, moss, terracotta, mustard, eggplant, and clay dominate the scene, evoking a sense of coziness. Lava stone is also making a statement. The incorporation of natural materials into high-end design is a major trend this year. A truly inspiring experience!
