A really wonderful evening at the AJ Madison flagship in Brooklyn last night. Thank you to and for hosting, and to for bringing so many of us together. Beautifully done all around.

These details you might not notice at first glance, but their impact is felt.

Take the scale and placement of the living room wall molding. It gives the artwork a sort of frame and room to breathe. At the bar, glass shelving and a mirrored recessed niche are flanked by storage cupboards as part of a single composition.

I spend a lot of time tinkering with these relationships, where a line begins and ends, or how much negative space something needs. You might not walk into a room and point to any one of those decisions, but together, they’re the reason a room feels just right.

If you called a contractor first, don't sweat it. I can work with that.

But given the choice, I like to be the first call. It gives me time to get to know your design goals and establish a creative direction. I build the design plan, and 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 bring in the contractor and team best suited to execute it.

Stop trying to make every small room look bigger. Sometimes, leaning into its size creates a more memorable space.

Bathrooms are especially great places to take a chance with color. We gave this one some boldness with saturated blue subway tile carried halfway up the wall and through the shower, then paired with a floating vanity in the same rich hue.

Rather than trying to visually expand the room, we embraced its intimacy to give this small space a much bigger personality.

My architecture background means I naturally begin with the bones. Before we get to the more decorative layers, I want to know that the foundation supports both your lifestyle and the larger creative vision.

This attic was dimly lit, all awkward angles, but I felt it held potential.

Our Bronxville client needed a private home office where they could work and take Zoom calls without being disrupted. The attic seemed like an ideal spot, though it needed work. To reflect light and make the tight space feel more open, I selected a high-gloss pink lacquer finish to cover the ceiling and angled walls. To ground all that shine, a moody botanical wallpaper wraps the lower walls.

If your interior designer is always "yes-ing" you, that's a red flag.

The best designer-client relationships are built on trust, and trust requires honesty.

I encourage clients to share their wish list. It's a crucial part of understanding how they want to live. But my responsibility is to evaluate those ideas through the lens of the home itself; its architecture, layout, budget, and long-term livability.

Sometimes that means saying, "Yes." Sometimes it means offering a better solution.

My clients aren't looking for someone to validate every decision. They're looking for someone who will confidently guide them and explain the reasoning behind each recommendation. That's how we help them create a home that's even better than they imagined.
