What I Would DIY First in This Backyard 🌿🏡
If this were my backyard, I wouldn’t start with expensive furniture or complicated landscaping.
I’d start with the small details that make the whole space feel intentional.
First, I’d create a simple gravel pathway around the house. It’s relatively affordable, easy to install, and gives the garden a defined structure without making it feel too formal.
Then I’d build layered planting beds using a mix of low groundcover, flowering plants, shrubs, and a few larger plants toward the back. The goal isn’t to fill every empty space — it’s to create depth. 🌱
Next would be DIY landscape lighting. A few low-voltage path lights and small uplights around trees or architectural features can completely change how the garden feels at night. ✨
I’d also add a few large rocks or natural stone pieces throughout the planting beds. They’re an easy way to make the landscape feel more established without buying a lot of decorations.
And finally, I’d create a simple outdoor sitting area underneath the house. A small table, comfortable chairs, some plants, and warm lighting would turn that otherwise unused space into an everyday outdoor room.
The trick is doing these things in the right order:
Define the space → create the planting structure → add lighting → add natural elements → furnish last.
You don’t need a huge budget to make a backyard look expensive. Sometimes it’s less about buying more and more about knowing where to put the right things. 🌿
