Wright Architects is a firm of architects, interior designers, and supporting staff based in New York. Over the last eight years, we have designed award-winning projects in a wide range of residential, institutional, and commercial work. We practice in a variety of styles - both historical and current - and strive to combine the very real, pragmatic needs of modernity with our historic architectur

al influences. We study and integrate all aspects of a designed environment into our projects. The landscapes, buildings, and interiors all influence each other, creating a richness the parts alone cannot achieve. We've worked throughout the United States including New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, California, Texas, Maryland, Maine, Tennessee, Delaware, Florida, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, as well as Europe and the Caribbean.

This is how a weekend morning usually goes. Up early, a little tired, coffee going, the newspaper out. Then at some point the watercolors come in.

It always starts as doodles, and it turns into something unexpected. I'm reading the paper to catch up on the world, and then I'm drawing, learning a little something either way.

The idea of this East Hampton home was to appear as if it weren't built all at once. It began as a barn, a cottage, and a carriage house, each relocated from elsewhere and carefully assembled on the dunes.

The buildings angle to capture views of the dunes and the ocean, with each one serving a distinct purpose. The carriage house contains the bedrooms and quieter spaces, while the barn holds the kitchen and main gathering room. A loft office, tucked behind the chimney, looks across the barn and out toward the water.

The Shingle Style barn and carriage house are connected by an open glass hallway, with a walkway spanning above.

McKim, Mead & White did more than design remarkable buildings. They helped shape the architectural identity of a young nation.

At the turn of the twentieth century, their work helped define the American civic landscape, from landmark public buildings to the planning of Washington, D.C. Through the ideals of the City Beautiful movement and the 1901 McMillan Plan, they demonstrated how architecture and urban planning could express the ambitions of a growing country.

Their influence is still felt today, and there is much we can learn from the way they thought about cities, public life, and architecture.
