OPEN TO THE OUTDOORS. The relationship between the home and its green landscape was a central consideration in the design process for the Southampton residence. The living room reflects this approach most clearly, with French doors opening directly to the garden. THE LANDSCAPE AS DESIGN. As seen in my latest project, the Southampton Guest Cottage, we approached both spaces with the same intent: to design not for the beach, but for the surrounding landscape. Rather than leaning into a coastal aesthetic, the focus remained on nature, allowing the architecture to sit quietly within its environment.

In the kitchen, natural materials, a clean white palette, and warm wood tones work in tandem with the surrounding greenery. Light becomes a defining material, reinforcing a sense of connection to place. CL

A TROPICAL RETREAT. While much of this Bahamas residence embraces layered pattern, tropical color, and artisanal texture inspired by its Bahamian surroundings, the primary bath offers a quieter counterpoint. A sculptural soaking tub, soft blue drapery, and delicate lighting create a sense of calm, stripping the space back to its essentials while still maintaining the home’s warmth and softness. CL

Designing custom pieces alongside interiors offers a more complete view of the work, how a room is not only composed, but supported in use and feeling. Its the subtle variation between each application that prevents this space from feeling as flat: slight tonal shifts from surface to surface give the room a quiet dynamism.
