Calling all architectural fans! You must go see The Met’s new exhibit Gothic By Design which features parchments from the 1300s and 1400s with amazing, detailed drawings of tracery and spires. Some of these drawings took decades with multiple architects conveying their ideas of structure and beauty!

It brings me back to my days at Parsons School of Design when we were tasked with drafting a detailed historic building. The hours of painstaking pencil drawing was exhausting but ultimately exhilarating. I can’t even imagine what these people accomplished in unforgiving ink drawings!!

I love the construction process, but it’s a bit unnerving when I’m standing in an apartment on the 32nd floor and I see the crane lifting steel in 30 mph wind just across the street! I admire all the workers who continue their jobs in rainy weather like today and under such challenging conditions! Ah! I just heard the horn blast alerting the workers that another load is coming in!

I love these delicate mobile pendant lights! They really add a touch of fun to the small space! At the Peninsula Hotel.

I’m a native New Yorker but I’d never been to the NY Historical Society until earlier this week. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their amazing collection of Tiffany lamps with the thousands of glass mosaics that shine with color and light. The bronze bases are also spectacular and you can see the progression from the wide bases which contained oil to light the lamps to the intricate and thinner bases for the, then, new electrical wiring.

Clara Driscoll is now credited as the artist and designer of most of the lamps’ designs in the Tiffany studio as historical journals have since documented.

And then there were the “Tiffany girls”: the unmarried young women who cut and arranged the myriad pieces of custom made glass.

I highly recommend this exhibit as well as the many amazing historical objects in their collection (including Tiffany silver!) And I wish you many colorful days!!

These photos are from the amazing dancers from the Complexions Contemporary Ballet troupe. After touring globally they are performing at the Joyce Theatre for the next 2 weeks. If you want to bring Joy into your life, you must experience the exuberance, physicality and artistry they demonstrate in every piece. Sheer beauty!!

Last night’s opening night at The Met was another great event. The curator of the Divine Egypt was so interesting and informative sharing the stories of the stories of the gods including Osiris, Horus and Isis. The exhibit is extraordinary with over 200 precious pieces from their collection and on loan from many countries. Be sure to look at the inscription under the gold statue!
