How we respond when a child proudly shows us their artwork matters more than we might realize.💛

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with saying “That’s beautiful!”, “Good job!” or “You’re so talented!”

But sometimes we can take the conversation one little step further.

Instead of only telling children what we think about their artwork, we can help them think about their own ideas, choices, effort and progress.

🎨 “Tell me about your picture.”
🎨 “Which part are you most proud of?”
🎨 “I noticed you kept trying when that part was difficult.”
🎨 “What made you choose those colors?”

Questions like these don’t just compliment the finished artwork - they invite children into a conversation.

And that can help us learn so much more about them, too. Their imagination, the little decisions they made, what was difficult, what they loved, and what they were trying to express.

That’s something we care deeply about at R’berry Arts. Our online art lessons aren’t only about recreating a pretty picture. We want children to experiment, make choices, problem-solve and feel confident in their own creativity. 🤍

Next time your child brings you a drawing, try replacing “Good job!” with one of these phrases and see where the conversation goes.

Save this for the next masterpiece they bring you. 🎨✨
