Color doesn’t always need to be an accent.

In a large loft with generous windows and high ceilings, a strong color can help define the entire atmosphere of the space.

The green sofa and blue seating in this interior work because the rest of the room is deliberately quiet: light walls, warm wood flooring and a large, expressive artwork. The color has room to breathe.

This is also why bold interiors aren’t necessarily about using many colors. One strong tone, repeated thoughtfully through furniture, artwork or accessories, can create a much more sophisticated result than a room filled with competing accents.

For clients who usually choose neutrals, this can be a good way to introduce personality without committing to a completely colorful interior.

A living room has to accommodate more than one kind of moment.

A quiet morning with coffee. Friends staying for dinner. A conversation that lasts longer than expected. An evening spent reading, listening to music, or simply doing nothing.

That’s why the arrangement of a living room matters just as much as the furniture itself.
Seating should encourage conversation, circulation should feel natural, and there should be enough space for the room to change with the way it’s being used.

The best living rooms rarely feel like a collection of furniture placed around a coffee table — there’s usually a rhythm to them. That’s something we think through from the very first stage of planning a renovation, long before the final pieces arrive.

What’s your living room’s favorite moment — morning coffee or a dinner that runs late? Tell us below 👇

White kitchens have dominated residential design for years. Now we’re seeing much more personality in cabinetry.

Deep green is particularly interesting because it sits somewhere between a neutral and a statement color. It has enough character to make the kitchen memorable, but it remains surprisingly easy to combine with natural stone, brass, wood and warm leather.

The kitchen in the reference images uses exactly that combination: dark green cabinetry, a light stone surface, warm wood flooring and cognac-colored seating.

It’s a good example of how color can be introduced into a renovation without making the space feel overly trendy.
And unlike a brightly colored finish that may quickly date, a deep, muted tone can become part of the architecture of the kitchen itself.

A calm bathroom, warm stone, soft lighting, and a few carefully chosen details.
We love using natural materials in bathrooms because they bring texture and depth without making the space feel overloaded. Marble, warm wood, brushed metal, soft fabrics and thoughtful lighting can create a very different atmosphere depending on how they are combined.

This is the kind of approach we take in our Manhattan projects. We look at the space as a whole and select finishes that work together, from the tile and stone to fixtures, lighting and custom details.

At Hoppler Design & Build, we handle bathroom design and renovation from concept and material selection through construction and final installation.

Sustainability and luxury are no longer separate conversations. Increasingly, Manhattan homeowners are looking for materials that combine exceptional design with responsible sourcing and long-term performance.

Options such as reclaimed wood flooring, low-VOC finishes, responsibly sourced stone, and energy-efficient fixtures allow homeowners to create beautiful interiors while reducing environmental impact. These materials often provide durability and timeless appeal that align perfectly with high-end residential design.
Today’s clients are more informed than ever. Questions about material origins, manufacturing practices, and environmental certifications have become a standard part of the design process.

Sustainable design is not about sacrificing quality or aesthetics. Instead, it focuses on making thoughtful choices that support healthier living environments and greater long-term value.

As the industry continues to evolve, responsible sourcing and environmental awareness are becoming important components of modern luxury renovation.
Would sustainability influence your material selections during a future renovation?

Harmonizing Space: The Complete Guide to Feng Shui Interior Design and Decorating

What is Feng Shui Interior Design?Originating from ancient China, "Feng" means wind and "Shui" means water. In the context of interior design, it is the art and science of arranging buildings, objects, and space to achieve harmony and balance. It is not merely a superstition; it is a system based on the observation of nature.

One of the most common mistakes homeowners make is underestimating the true scope of a renovation budget. Materials and labor are only part of the equation.

A comprehensive budget should also account for permits, design services, engineering reviews, board fees, temporary storage, delivery logistics, building deposits, and contingency funds for unforeseen conditions. In Manhattan, these additional expenses can significantly impact overall project costs.

Unexpected discoveries behind walls, upgrades required to meet current building codes, and changes requested during construction can all influence final pricing. Proper budgeting helps reduce stress and allows homeowners to make informed decisions throughout the process.
The most successful projects are not necessarily the ones with the largest budgets. They are the ones that begin with realistic expectations and a clear understanding of priorities.

Thoughtful planning allows renovation teams to allocate resources effectively and minimize financial surprises as construction progresses.
Which renovation expense surprised you the most during a past project?
