🍎 Dolly’s Apple Cobbler 🍎
Ingredients:
For the Apple Filling:
6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
For the Cobbler Topping:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 cup whole milk
1 large egg
Directions:
Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Prepare the Apples: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and alcohol-free vanilla. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
Fill the Baking Dish: Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Dot the top with the 2 tablespoons of butter.
Make the Cobbler Topping: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add the Wet Ingredients: Whisk together the milk and egg. Pour into the flour mixture and stir gently just until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
Top the Apples: Drop spoonfuls of the dough evenly over the apples, leaving a few small spaces for the fruit to bubble through.
Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
Cool and Serve: Let the cobbler rest for 10–15 minutes before serving. Spoon it into bowls and serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
