Some of my favorite pieces are the ones our clients likely would never come across on their own.

This coffee table is a perfect example.

A big part of our job is sourcing beyond what is easily available. We are constantly looking through trade-only vendors, makers, vintage sources, and one-of-a-kind finds for pieces that bring something special to the room and feel right for the client.

The goal is never to make a home feel unusual just for the sake of it. It is to create a collection that feels personal, considered, and difficult to replicate.

And sometimes, that means a 48-inch coffee table arrives in a very, very large box.

I love getting to know our clients. The more they share of themselves, the more connected the design becomes to who they truly are.

We are beyond fortunate to work with clients who willingly tell us how they live, how they want to live, what matters to them, what they love, and, just as importantly, their hard nos.

Then they trust us to take everything we’ve learned about them and create a home that feels deeply personal, with the Villa Hygge Design ethos woven throughout.

The Gathering House took its cues from what was already outside the windows.

Set into the wooded, granite landscape of Merrill Hill, the homeowners wanted the interiors to feel connected to their surroundings. So we kept coming back to the colors, textures, and organic forms found just beyond the walls.

Rather than choosing one big statement piece, we layered materials and details that could work together. The result feels collected and elevated, but still warm, comfortable, and easy to live in.

The homes that feel effortless are anything but accidental.

A light landing a few inches differently. Two materials meeting just right. A piece shifting slightly to bring the whole room into balance.

These decisions may seem small on their own, but together, they are what make a finished home feel resolved.

This is the part of design most people never see. The measuring, adjusting, questioning, and editing that happens before everything finally feels right.

That level of attention is part of the value we bring to every project.

I LOVE designing bunkrooms. They are one of those rooms where I think you can have a little more fun, especially in a mountain house.

For The Gathering House, I kept thinking about what this room would feel like when it was full. Kids climbing into bunks, cousins or friends piled in together, ski gear dropped at the end of the day, and probably a lot less sleeping than anyone planned.

We wanted it to feel warm, nostalgic, and playful, so we layered classic plaid, natural wood, built-in storage, and just enough old-school ski house character without making it feel themed.

It’s the kind of room I would have loved as a kid.

Frankly, I still would.

Hygge isn’t something you add at the end. It’s something you build into the way a home feels.

At Alpine Haven, that meant warm wood and natural stone, soft layers, places to pause, rooms made for lingering, and even transition spaces that feel considered.

None of it is about making a home look “cozy.” It’s about creating warmth, ease, and a sense that you want to stay awhile.

That’s hygge to us.

Sheepskin might feel like a fall thing. The texture, the warmth, the instant cozy factor. But for us, it’s a year-round staple.

Draped over a chair, layered onto a bench, used as a rug, or tossed somewhere that needs a little softness, it adds warmth and texture without feeling overly seasonal.

Very hygge. Very cozy. Very much staying out all year.

This powder room started with one thing we knew about our client: she loves to ski.

We let the wallpaper lead, then balanced it with a custom concrete sink and formed metal sconces that gave the room a little weight.

Some places you visit. Others you never want to leave.

Boots off after a day on the mountain. A work call from a room you love being in. A bath you linger in a little longer. One more drink around the kitchen island.

For us, that is the point of a home. Not purely how it looks, but how much you want to live in it.
