Sometimes (and I mean always) you pivot. Both designer and client intention was to keep the existing brick fireplace surround and OG brass insert. Once demo started, structural issues brought about a hiccup to these best laid plans and prompted an overhaul to this asymmetrical MSM anchor in the living room. The brick and brass had to go. Then what? Inspiration from the Eames' Case Study House No. 8 and bringing the outdoors in (a core pillar of the MCM movement) guided the finishes.

A Mid-Century ranch home along the lakeshore is getting back to its roots... with a twist.

First up: "Kitchen, we need to have a talk... "

The existing layout is strange in that its footprint stops short and prioritizes a walkway to outdoors. We revamped, stretched out the space, relocated the porch door and made the kitchen functional for the chef and her specific needs. After all, for a client whose love language is cooking, this existing plan squeezes space and skirts the predominant view to an interior wall and not to outdoors or surrounding family members. It's all sorts of awkward. Let's glow it up and set the tone for the rest of the home. Both clients are architecture and design enthuisiasts, so making informed historically-based design decisions was in order and a lot of fun!

Inspiration comes in many forms. It's so important to fill up your cup however that may look. It's different for everyone. Take some damn downtime. I may have splurged on product. I may have picked up some video editing tips from my tween. The fact remains, it makes me a better interior designer. Fact! My cup runneth over. Wishing you a Happy Saturday!

Here's a lil look-see into one current "in progress" residential project. We are one decorative lighting fixture away from the lighting installation being set in this home! Just (trying to) patiently wait for it to show up at the studio. Any day now... From paper to real life is such a fun jump that never gets old. All that measuring and drawing pays off.
