Holy Moly… it’s already December. You know what that means, It’s that time of the year again! Well the most wonderful time of the year for some or the most stressful time of the year for others.

I have recently watched “A Bad Moms Christmas” and I am taking something they emphasized to heart.

If we try so hard and put so much pressure on ourselves to be picture perfect and do all the festive things that the holidays aren’t actually enjoyable for ourselves and ends up not being fun for our family, what is the friggin point?

✨Moderation is key. My new goal is to do one festive thing a week- see a tree lighting, get together for cookie decorating with family and friends, go to a Xmas tree farm, etc.

One thing a weekend is fun and festive enough to give my kiddo something to look forward to all week but low key enough where I am not a stress ball.

✨Roll out the Holiday decorations all month.  I learned this as a toddler hack from another Mama. This keeps things fresh and fun for your littles all month and helps keep you less stressed about having to get everything done at once- because let’s be serious- I have never completed a complex task like that in one sitting after having kids.

So after Thanksgiving, I tackled the play room. We hung up some garland and switched out our orange nugget cover to a green one and put out the advent calendar. This weekend, I will decorate the tree and weekend the living room, and last the outside- maybe the weekend after. Give yourself some grace to roll things out. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

⚡️Find pockets of time that work for you and your family.

Wishing you a holiday season filled with joy! You can Give JoY and also ENJOY!

Schematic design phase: get excited about your dream space.

This is where you dream big about what you want to achieve for your space. You figure out what goals need to be met, the vibe of space, you set your budget and talk about schedule.

It is the first part of the design process and in my opinion, the most fun ;)

What’s the word Wednesday!

Conversation pieces are a great way to create engagement in a space. The best pieces are ones that hold meaning for you which you want to talk about. Pieces with stories help make spaces more personal and enjoyable to be in.

You got a 6 foot giraffe stuffed animal because your kids fell in love with giraffes their first time at the zoo? So cute!

You have an entire bookshelf dedicated to sand that you collected on all your travels with your loved one. Cool!

You have your mom’s old 1968 electric bass guitar on display to remind you and your kiddo you have a cool mom and music is important in this family? Rock on!

Get the conversations started!

✨I recommend not skipping the chance to embrace holidays.

Give space and time to recognize, celebrate, and decorate each festive event.

There are smart ways to have transitional decor where you don’t have to do a lot of work to decorate and transform your space from one to another.

This is an unpopular opinion but I don’t understand how people can skip over an entire opportunity to celebrate the decor of fall, harvest, gratefulness and getting together with people you love.

⏱Time is constantly passing and moves quick enough. Take a moment to slow things down and enjoy the now.

With home and life, it is easy to start to compare yours’ with other peoples’. It can become a constant internal struggle. Over the last decade, the week before Thanksgiving I do a week of thankfulness, I am continuing to challenge myself for a month of Thankfulness. Every night, before dinner my goal is to say something I am thankful for.

✨ I would love it if you joined me in being present, with no expectation or requirement of it being more than it is or comparing it to someone else’s.

My favorite challenge is convincing people that they don’t need to build an addition to have more useable space in thier home.

✨Assess, address, and achieve.

Decluttering is key. People don't realize how much they hoard. If you go through your closet, look under your bed, and look in your dressers, you will be surprised at how many things you could get rid of.

Take, for example, a closet. If you go through your closet and get rid of clothes you don't use–donate them and give them that positive second life- extra perk is that you now have space back.

When you consciously do this, you will be amazed at how much space you create.

Curate and create. Redesigning a space does not require purchasing new. Use what you have in other rooms around the house that might not be working or make a space feel crowded. Use those pieces in a different way in a new space and you may be surprised at the happy you can create.

Curate your moment for Work-If you will be on the computer or FaceTime for much of your day, Ditch the virtual backgrounds and curate your real life background!

Curate your corner for Play-Create curated opportunities for creativity and self expression!

Creating a zone or wall where they can play, create, or ideate is the key. This can be done with chalkboard paint, dry erase boards, or craft paper. And for opportunities to display try pegboards, magnetic strips, or clothes lines/wire lines.

Go look up!

I love Vertical storage, especially in corners. Corners are the most underutilized spaces in a room. Here are some design tips to activate and maximize your space!

⚡️Using shelving in corners create
more opportunity for display, more
space for storage, and activate your walls to draw attention to your ceiling heights.

✨If you activate your floor with a dynamic flooring and your ceiling with a bold light fixture choice, keep your walls more neutral and calm. On the other hand, if you activate your walls with feature walls- busy patterns and rich colors, your ceiling and floor should be more calm.

⚡️Activate your walls and vertical surfaces. In a small space, Floor space is at a premium. Don’t use a pop up hamper when it could get ones that can be hung over your door. Use 3M hooks (heavy duty ones can hold up to 45 pounds) to hang large items.

Wednesday is the new Monday… jk!

But this piece is still amazing and deserves to be featured. The folding Montessori helping tower is perfect for any home but especially one that has a small footprint.

This piece creates engagement on so many levels for your Little with its 3 in 1 design.

✔️Bring it in the kitchen to have them help you cook and prep
✔️Turn it around and you have created an ideation station with a chalkboard.
✔️Flip it open and you have made a toddler table and chair great for activities and the perfect size to their little bodies

Choose pieces that work harder for you so you can get the most out of your space!

If you have a Junk drawer, you are human. If you have a junk closet or junk room, you are under utilizing your space.

I love repurposing “spare” or junk closets into actual usable space.

The square footage you can from closets can be that extra office space you wanted, that baby zone you always needed, or that home gym you never knew you could have. Closets as nooks are my favorite simple solution.

You can activate your closet square footage and still be able to close it off so it is like a secret room or space. Or you can open it up and remove the doors to make your room room that much larger.

If you could add a little secret room what it be for?
