The popular hiking stick is just too soft. I'm sick of having a refinish the thing every time I drop it cause it gets a huge dent or scratching it.

I asked Gemini and ChatGPT, what's a good strong, lightweight wood for a hiking stick. Of course they both had different lists, but they both listed Ash.

Was thinking how expensive it would be to buy a hunk of ash, then it dawned on me I had when I was using as a closet pole upstairs in the attic. Sand off the nasty stain. It was on there, some tongue oil, and some wax and voilà. About to test drive it.

Renaissance  wax failed QC. I love that. It's nice and clear and doesn't give any yellow like the other wax did, but it feels a little sticky walking with it. Bummer.
