I've been transfixed by sunflowers for decades, ever since a dream I had, over 30 years ago. In that dream, they saved my life. I've done my best to pay homage to them ever since.

I hope these two will find a home as a pair, as they play so well together. The first is entitled, "My Mother & I, Warm & Forever", and the sole flower is named, "She Raised Me to Shine in the Sun".

May all women everywhere in this world be free, safe from harm, cherished for our humanity, respected for our knowledge and wisdom, and honored for our gifts. May we all shine in the sun, safe and strong.

One of my favorite things is to transform metal and cast iron pieces into garden art. Especially when it's about to be thrown out!

I love to grab it, give it a little clay paint co-existing with the rust of time, highlight points of beauty, add it to the garden, let the plants climb up its lattice frame, and then enjoy the burst of color all winter long in Vermont when everything else is gray and white.

These Singer sewing machine sides are painted in a porcelain clay paint in my custom blended elderberry color. Available now. I really love how they look with the yellow color of my house! How great would they look in your garden?

* Each side sold separately ~ you can lean it against a sturdy wall, attach the top (there are holes) with wire to a post to be upright, or buy both and lean them together like a sandwich board attached together at the top

This weekend is Vermont Open Studio! So all over the state you can visit artisans in their studios, ask questions, see their art, maybe even head home with a piece of art! I'm releasing this collection of 20 multi-media abstract butterfly paintings, all 5"x7" canvases with hand-dyed paper, acrylic paint, and embellishments.

One weekend a year my girlfriends and I have gotten together to make art outdoors in the July sun. Over the past 25? 30? years I have painted, batiked, and experimented with all kinds of dyes, indigo recipes, painting styles, papers, fabrics, and techniques.

Having a group of colleagues to laugh and explore with is such a key to my growth as an artist. If you don’t already have such a group, I urge you to find one - start w just one person. Who do you know who also makes art, at about your level, and see if you want to get together for coffee and a little portable art making in a park. What have you got to lose?

Do you ever find yourself giving away something that is meant for yourself?

Writing up descriptions of the vintage clothing I sell on eBay (another love of mine besides making art), I found myself writing this about a flannel shirt ::

It's time for what you need :: water your plants, hydrate yourself, breathe, take a walk.

Because later you're gonna need energy to have that heartfelt conversation with your kid, be there for your sick parent, and check in on how your friend is doing after the thing.

So put on something soft and cozy, and remember it's all about love. Loving yourself first, so you can give to all of them from the overflow. Let the gentleness of this shirt remind you of how you want to be, that you're enough, that this moment is enough.

Yeah, to the world it's just a shirt. And it's a great shirt. But when you put it on, let it be your warm-hearted reminder, too."

That night I kept thinking about how great that sounded! And I realized, I really want that shirt.

But of course, it wouldn't fit me.

So today I tried it on ~ and it DOES fit me! And it is a VERY HAPPY gift to myself.
