Living for centuries, trees in this primal forest grew heights of over 200 feet with amazing girth and stature. By 1920, logging and fire had completely decimated all but a few small stands of virgin timber in the state. Virgin timber lumber is strikingly different from lumber milled from second and third growth forest trees. Living a majority of their lives in a shaded environment, trees in the v

irgin forest grew very slowly. This translates into lumber with extremely tight growth rings and complex grain patterns. Adding an additional layer of interest and complexity are the years of use after the lumber was cut. Original saw marks, stained nail holes, worm holes, weathering and distress, and oxidation (darkening and reddening of color tone) from years of exposure to the open air make each piece of lumber (and furniture) interesting and unique.
