Why I make clean, realistic candles for sensitive people.

Because I am one.

If you'd asked me ten years ago if I was sensitive, I would have laughed in your face. My nickname was Diesel. I could handle anything.

Turns out I was wrong. Being able to endure something isn't the same as not being affected by it.

In my 40's I learned I was, in fact, pathologically sensitive - to bright lights, artificial scents, synthetic fabrics, noise, more things than I can list. Diesel was tough because Danielle really wasn't. I just didn't have the language for it yet.

So when I started making candles, I wasn't trying to build a brand for "sensitive people." I was just trying to make candles I could tolerate without faking it. Real scents. Clean burns. Nothing that compromised my ethics or my health. It felt like the bare minimum.

And now a few years on, that same nose that used to cringe at odors from across a room is the one that built my reputation for true-to-life scents.

So if you asked me today? I wouldn't laugh. I'd smile, and tell you: yes, I'm sensitive. And that's exactly why my candles are made the way they are.
