SWIPE for an amazing transformation!!➡️
This was the first home I bought and it was definitely a dated fixer upper!! This was the family room at the back of the home. It had all the original fixtures and smelled just like you can imagine… MUSTY! 🤣
The carpet was the original carpet from the 80s, it had hideous and dated paneling, and the fireplace had a brick veneer that was badly stained from soot.
However, I instantly saw past all of that and fell in love with the bookshelves and the room was huge at nearly 250 sq ft! I was remodeling the entire house and didn’t have a large budget to rip everything out and start over, so here is how I transformed it!!
I ripped out all the old rust carpet and pad and replaced it with a gray low pile peel and stick carpet tile. I painted filled in all of the cracks and seams on the paneling with putty to give the wall a smooth look. After that, I painted all of the walls with two coats of primer and two coats of semi gloss bright white paint. I repainted the fire place veneer (no I didn’t ruin the brick.. It was fake lol) with a dark gray paint to match the color on the exterior and then I painted all of the bookshelves and mantle in a high gloss black! I wanted to reuse the current light fixtures to save money so I took the ceiling fan blades off and painted them black as well!
The room was super long and was right off of the kitchen so I made the front half by the fireplace the family room area and had enough space in the back for a formal dining area! I added my turquoise vase collection to the shelves and it turned into the perfect room!
The 2nd picture is the first design with my original couch and the pictures after are the final design when I changed out the couch for a sectional!
This room paid off big for me when I sold the home for a profit! I’m still so proud of this room and I spent less than $400 on the entire transformation!!!
