82 years ago, American and allied forces displayed the most humbling acts of bravery. Some as young as 18. Some as old as 45. Average age of a trooper on D Day: 26. Some, just out of high school stepped up and starred death in the face for our freedom. The heroism is BEYOND the palpable. I cannot fathom the utter exhaustion and fear that was endured on that day. Absolute horror and carnage. TRY and live a life worthy of the courage displayed and the sacrifices made.
By dawn on June 6th, thousands of paratroopers and glider troops were already on the ground behind enemy lines, securing bridges and exit roads. The amphibious invasions began at 6:30A.M. The British and the Canadians overcame light opposition to capture beaches code named Juno and Sword, as did the Americans at Utah Beach. U.S. forces faced heavy resistance at Omaha Beach, where there were OVER 2,000 American casualties. However, by day’s end approximately 156,000 Allied Troops had successfully stormed Normandies beaches. Estimated over 4,000 Allied troops lost their lives in the D Day invasion, with thousands more wounded or missing. This objective was essential for the success of defeating a tyrannical enemy and ensuring the freedom we take for granted today.
We will never forget their sacrifice⚡️🇺🇸
