Hey airbnb, it’s not me, it’s you. ✌️🙂

This fee change has been in the works for a while - they first rolled it out to some hosts last year and a lot of people had negative experiences from it. Dropped bookings, down ranking in the search results, complicated rate restructuring. Most didn’t like it. So they decided to roll it out to everyone this summer 🙃

Look, I recognize that owning a vacation home is a privilege. It absolutely is. And we built ours to be our forever home in a few years, not as an income or investment property. It’s a really personal place for us - we designed every inch of it, both in interior design and floor planning. But Airbnb doesn’t care about that.. of course they don’t. They don’t care that we’ve brought a lot of new guests to the platform. They don’t care that we work to provide a really well stocked, well maintained, well loved cabin. They don’t care that a lot of our bookings are from repeat guests. Frankly I think they just don’t care at all, about hosts or guests.

I think Airbnb is so busy trying to be something that it’s not that they’ve lost the point. We’ve all seen the viral stories of guests unhappy with their Airbnb experience. Properties that cut corners to be cheap - here’s one roll of toilet paper, two threadbare towels, no bedsheets at all, and don’t forget to fully mop and vacuum and reset the whole place before you leave! - are what Airbnb is becoming known for. A lot of us have been waiting for them to realize there are some truly incredible, unique vacation homes on the platform that are huge assets and they should utilize those to bring people back.. but that’s not the direction they’re going in. While making us now pay a premium for it!

So we’re going in our own direction and it seems like a LOT of other hosts are doing the same. So if you’re planning a trip any time soon, make sure to check out my tips on finding direct booking options!

And swipe all the way through for a fun discount code to save on your stay!

Excited for this change and for breaking free from a platform that has personally given me a lot of stress and anxiety and I hope you’ll join us in that 🥰

The October-December calendar is open! 🍂🍁🪾🎃

So while most of us are literally sweating our butts off in this extreme summertime heat wave, maybe a little daydreaming about cooler weather will help restore some sanity.

These are definitely our most popular dates, so whatever is open right now, it won’t stay that way. Last year October and most of November were fully booked within 48 hours! So don’t wait to make your plans.

Also - I know everyone loves October (same) but don’t sleep on those November vibes. We usually have some color hanging around through mid November, and the combination of autumn leaves and the mountain views is my favorite thing. It’s so magical. It feels like every morning, the view has opened up even more.

🎄 And then there’s the holidays! Skip the huge Thanksgiving hassle and plan some quiet, unplugged time at the cabin instead. If you want to cook for you and someone special, our kitchen is fully stocked with most everything you’d need in terms of pots, pans, and dishes, and we keep things like salt, pepper, basic spices, and olive oil on hand. Or you can just fully relax by picking up something to-go in Black Mountain, Marion, or Old Fort!

We’ll have the cabin decorated for Christmas/Yule in early December, so you can also plan a very lowkey, cozy holiday getaway. There’s really nothing like the fireplace and the tree and the twinkle lights.. it’s the perfect cabin getaway.

❄️ If you’re thinking ahead to wintertime, we’ve also gone ahead and opened up the first two weeks in January, including New Years Eve and New Years Day. We actually won’t be opening up anything else in January because we’re planning on keeping the rest for us! We’ll have details on what February and March will look like later on this year.

Head over to our airbnb to grab your ‘Ber month cozy cabin getaway before it’s too late 🍂🍂🍂

I figured it was about time I put a permanent and easily accessible FAQ post up! If you don’t find the answer to your question here, please drop it below or DM me.

And I didn’t have space for this one but here’s a written walk through of our layout:

The entryway from the front porch opens to the kitchen (to the right), dining (center), and downstairs bathroom on the left. The downstairs bedroom is immediately next to the bathroom. We also have a pantry and washer/dryer closet in this area. From there, the cabin opens up into the main living area with 28’ ceilings, a fireplace, couch, chairs, vinyl record player, bookshelf, and hanging chair reading nook. Upstairs is a lofted bedroom with a dressing area, shower, and bathroom. It also has direct access to the balcony, which overlooks the front yard. In the front yard, we have a hammock, fire pit, Adirondack chairs, outdoor dining table, and charcoal grill. On the back deck, we have a cedar soaking hot tub, outdoor living room, and propane fire table. The back deck feels a little like a treehouse thanks to our giant chestnut oak tree. We have tons of books and vinyls, board games, and a collection of cards that include conversation decks, oracle decks, playing cards, and meditation decks, all found in our digital detox cabinet.

While we provide a lot (see no. 18), we recommend guests bring a bathing suit, a robe & slippers for maximum cozy cabin vibes, charcoal for the grill (we usually leave some behind but can’t guarantee it’ll be there), and fire starters for the fire pit.

Hot take but I’d pick a cabin in the woods over a summertime beach trip any day of the week. 😌

For one thing, the crowds.. won’t find that at our cabin, that’s for sure. And it’s not nearly as hot. And there’s no sand getting into every single thing you own. And personally I’d much rather float in a cool, clear creek at a waterfall over getting in the ocean - we happen to have the best swimming hole not too far away (Catawba Falls!)

Western North Carolina is the perfect summertime spot. You can: hike at the cooler elevations for big, beautiful views, load your favorite playlist and go for a long drive on the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway, hit up all the local farmers and art markets, pick out a shady spot at a brewery and hear live bluegrass music, or go for a refreshing swim at a waterfall.

Our little a-frame retreat is perfectly situated to be home base for so many adventures. You can do all of that within a quick 20-30 minute drive most of the time! And you won’t even have to worry about a rainy day ruining your plans because honestly? Those are the best, most relaxing days to spend cozied up at the cabin. Going out and exploring or staying in and relaxing or doing a little of all of the above.. it’s a very peaceful way to enjoy your time off.

If that sounds like the vacation you want to escape to, we just opened up our July-September calendar! The early fall days went fast, as usual, but we still have lots of availability for the summer.

🎆 July 4th weekend and Labor Day weekend are still open! But those definitely won’t stay available for long.

Check our airbnb listing to book your stay! ☀️🏕️

I know that I’m in the minority when I say that I loooove winter and I know most everyone else is ready for spring, but I couldn’t let the season come to a close without a look back at our snow days this year ❄️

This was our first winter since before building, and actually since we even bought the property, where we got real snow! It was so beautiful and peaceful - there’s nothing like that classic a-frame shape covered in snow.

With spring weather definitely in our forecast, it won’t be long until the wildflowers and mountain laurel are blooming and all the green on the trees is back. Experiencing the seasonal changes out at the cabin is one of my favorite things. After years living somewhere that was basically summer and not summer (coastal GA 🥵), it feels really magical to watch these seasons come and go.

If you’re ready for spring and summer, we have limited availability for stays out at the a-frame! There’s some discounted March weekdays, one weekend left in May, and one weekend left in June. July-September opens up on April 1st!

When I think back on my original vision for the a-frame, I always pictured it covered in beautiful, rich, vintage Persian rugs. But like with so many things when you’re done building, that vision had to wait (aka was not in the budget 🤪).

Cut to nearly three years later, I was ready to replace our kitchen rug and I knew I wanted to go back to that original vision. That’s when I found in Asheville! We went to look at a couple of options for the kitchen, to buy just one rug. We bought three. And as soon as we got those three in place, we immediately went back and bought two more 😂

I honestly wasn’t even thinking about replacing our living room rugs but as soon as we put the new ones in front of the back deck doors and at the spiral staircase landing, the others just looked so bland and lifeless next to them.

The difference is massive. The color, the feel, the texture.. they’ve completely changed the way it feels when you walk in to the cabin. It feels so much more soulful and intentional and rich.

These are all Persian rugs, 100% wool, handmade, and range in age from 40 to 70 years old. As a fibers artist, I can fully appreciate the time, labor, and skill it takes to hand make something like this. They’re actual pieces of functional artwork - they’re just so beautiful.

Starting this collection has completely awoken a newfound love in me.. I can’t wait to buy more. I’ve even started collecting vintage books on rugs! I think it would be kind of a cool thing to have all these rugs and then books about them for guests to enjoy (and also hopefully fall in love with too 💕).

And when we are ready for more rugs, for the cabin and for our home, we’ll definitely go back to . Brian was super knowledgeable and helpful, and he ships! So you don’t have to be in Asheville to get your own artwork for your home. But if you’re nearby, it’s definitely a fun experience to see all the rugs he has in person.

If you’ve been here a minute, you know I’m always adding to the a-frame. At this point it’s a continually evolving art project for me. But these are forever rugs - they’ll be here long after we stop renting out and move in. ♥️

Happy New Year!! 🎆🍾✨

I hope that 2026 is the year of all these things - slower days, more books, hiking trails, finding joy wherever you can, spending quality time with people you love, and enjoying the cabin life.

If that’s what your to do list looks like, our spring and early summer calendar has just opened up! April-June is now available on airbnb.

We’ve already had a few weekends sn**ched up so don’t wait to book your cabin escape! ♥️🏔️

My favorite part of that time of year is the way the cabin really comes to life. We added a lot more native wildflower seeds this past fall and watching them bloom is so lovely. We also have mountain laurel and rhododendrons surrounding the a-frame so that in early to mid May, there’s a sea of white and pink blooms all over. It’s stunning! And then in June, our fireflies start to come out! Last year we had SO many, way more than the year before, and I’m hoping all our time spent planting more native wildflowers will mean we have even more this year. 🌺 🌼

It’s literally the most magical time of year, of course I’m happier ❄️✨🎄

With Christmas just around the corner, I’m starting to think about how to extend these vibes into January. Fingers crossed we’ll get snow again but don’t we also deserve some extra lights and sparkle for the new year? I’ve never understood why we erase the end of fall when we could just extend into January!

That’s also when we have our next availability btw - January 5-8 and 12-14 are still available and, even better news, they’re discounted!

Check our Airbnb calendar to make your winter getaway or sn**ch up one of our available weekends at the end of February and into March! A cozy cabin escape would make for the perfect spring break plans.
