“Free Palestine, Reparations & Land Back Now” elicited this response from a very angry (emotional) white man.

A different hemotional white was commenting about Jewish people in our town as well. As if, we’ve never heard the propaganda of anti-zionism and anti-semitism being the same thing. It’s dangerously untrue. We honor, respect & cherish Jewish heritage and Jewish practices.

These right-wing white Christian nationalists truly believe they’re “bringing upon end times” with this dangerous rhetoric and it’s literally allowing a genocide of an entire population to prevail. Despite the UN condemning it. Despite the countless videos, eye witness testimonies, and endless proof of brutal murders.

We don’t want genocide deniers in our shop. We don’t want MAGA in our shop. We don’t want racists in our shop. We don’t want homophobes in our shop. We don’t want terfs in our shop.

We don’t want your money. We don’t care how many customers we lose. We stand with the oppressed.

If not wanting children murdered is “too political” for you; we fear you’ve lost your humanity. You are doing the hard work of the oppressors so they don’t have to convince the public to say & do nothing. You did that for them. There’s no award for that; just pointless cruelty, suffering & death.

We’ve seen all of your obtuse, recycled arguments. Always coming out of the mouth of those who have historically been privileged enough to not experience oppression.

But we would be happy to call on your behalf or explore options alongside of you to suit your needs. We know it can be overwhelming. You do not have to do it alone.

Please know, we are filled with sorrow & grief over closing our pantry. We see the need in Berks County and wish we could solve the problems our community members face with immediacy. Please also know, needing help is never a moral failing. The systems in place in this country are not meant to sustain us; they are merely Band-Aids.

We believe at BMA that EVERYONE deserves a roof over their head, food in their belly, and proper medical care without fear of cost.

It is our hope that together, we can make Pennsylvania, and ultimately the United States, a better place by supporting and engaging in community. We are stronger together and we are in this together. You are not alone.

This is just a goodbye for now. Not forever. We hope to engage in other forms of Mutual Aid in the future that can benefit Berks County. Keep an eye out on this page for updates regarding our projects in the future.
