Hiring someone to work on your floors? A few good questions can help you feel a whole lot more confident in your choice!
Here’s something homeowners may not realize!! Being a registered contractor doesn’t automatically mean someone has specialized TRAINING IN FLOORING. It’s worth asking about the experience and education behind the work, too!
Before choosing your flooring contractor, ask:
✔️ What training or certifications do you have?
Ask about training specific to the work you need—especially hardwood sanding and refinishing.
✔️ Who will actually be working in my home?
Find out who’s doing the work, what experience they have, and who your contact will be throughout the project.
✔️ Can you provide proof of insurance?
It’s a reasonable question, and something you should feel comfortable asking!
✔️ How do you handle prep work?
Ask how they check moisture and subfloor conditions, and how they’ll address problems before installing your new floor.
✔️ What’s included in my quote?
Materials, prep, furniture moving, removal, cleanup—knowing what’s included helps prevent surprises. Ask how unexpected costs will be handled, too.
✔️ Can I see similar projects or read customer reviews?
Look for experience with the kind of work you’re having done.
✔️ What happens after the job is finished?
Ask about care instructions, warranty coverage, and who to contact if a concern comes up.
At FloorCo, continuing education is something we make time for! We attend classes and training offered by the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) to keep building our knowledge and skills. We’re proud of that investment because the knowledge we bring to a project matters just as much as the tools we bring!
You don’t have to be a flooring expert to hire one. Ask questions—a good contractor should be happy to answer them!!
