Yesterday, we said goodbye to one of the most important members of the 402 Etch & Vinyl family.

Many of you may not have known him by name, but if you've stopped by the shop, there's a good chance you've met Riley Gene. For the last 13 years, Riley wasn't just our dog—he was our loyal companion, our supervisor, our foot warmer, and one of the original four-legged employees of 402 Etch & Vinyl.

Riley was our first dog together and has been with us through so many chapters of life. He was there before the business existed, through the late nights, the crazy projects, the successes, the setbacks, and everything in between. No matter what was going on, you could usually find him laying at our feet in the shop, keeping an eye on things and making sure quality control standards were being met.

Yesterday, Riley crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving a hole in our hearts that can't be filled. While we knew this day would eventually come, it doesn't make saying goodbye any easier.

The shop feels a little quieter today. The floor beside our workstations feels a little emptier. And our shop boss Easton is definitely missing his buddy.

Thank you, Riley, for 13 years of unconditional love, loyalty, and countless memories. You were the best boy, and you will always be a part of our family and the story of 402 Etch & Vinyl.

🚨 SISTER REQUESTED PROJECT ALERT 🚨

There are custom projects...

And then there are projects your sister asks you to make for her wedding. 😳

No pressure, right? 😂

JT had never made a custom 3D wedding aisle sign before, but when his sister came to him with a vision for something special to welcome guests at the front of the aisle, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work.

What many people don't see is that projects like this aren't just about building the final piece. They often involve learning new skills along the way. This project pushed JT to spend time dialing in the CNC machine even further so he could get clean, precise cuts on every letter and detail. There may have been a few test pieces, some colorful language, and more than one trip back to the drawing board. 🤣

Because this wasn't just a wedding decoration.

This sign will become a permanent piece in their home after the wedding—a reminder of the day they said "I do" and the memories that follow. That meant every detail had to be just right.

From designing and cutting every layer, to staining, painting, and assembling it all by hand, this piece was built with a whole lot of patience, determination, and love.

Needless to say, the pressure was REAL. When your client is your sister, there's no hiding if something goes wrong. 😂

Thankfully, she loved it, the sign turned out amazing, and JT once again proved that if you can dream it, he can probably figure out how to make it.

Now the real question is... does this earn him "Favorite Brother" status? 🤔

P.S. Thankfully she loved it... because Thanksgiving dinner would've gotten really awkward otherwise. 😂🍗

🎉 TWO YEARS AGO THIS MONTH... 🎉

402 Etch & Vinyl officially became an LLC, and honestly, looking back, it's hard to believe how far we've come.

What started with a Cricut still sitting in a box while Amber was stuck on the couch recovering from ankle surgery and unable to walk for 12 weeks has somehow turned into... all of this.

A couple of people with a crazy idea, a lot of late nights, a growing collection of machines that seem to multiply when we're not looking, and a 4-year-old Shop Boss who keeps us on our toes. ❤️

We've somehow managed to juggle full-time jobs, family life, baseball games, school events, endless coffee, and a small business that has grown beyond anything we could have imagined.

There have been plenty of nights working until 2 AM, learning lessons the hard way, making mistakes, celebrating wins, and wondering if we were completely crazy for taking this leap.

One of the biggest reasons we ever took that leap was because of Grandma Carolyn. ❤️ Her encouragement, belief in us, and constant reminders that we were capable of more gave us the confidence to stop dreaming and start doing. Even though she is no longer physically here with us, we feel her presence often—especially on the crazy days. When orders pile up, machines act up, and life feels overwhelming, it still feels like she's quietly cheering us on and reminding us to keep going. This business will always carry a piece of her with it, and we hope she'd be proud of what it has become.

But through it all, one thing has remained constant:

YOU.

Every order.
Every like.
Every share.
Every recommendation.
Every time you've trusted us with a gift, a memorial piece, a business project, team apparel, a custom sign, or a crazy idea that started with, "I know this sounds weird, but..."

🇺🇸 20 Years. One Incredible Career. Endless Respect. 🇺🇸

We had the honor of creating a retirement gift for Senior Master Sergeant Jared Martin as he hangs up the blues after 20 years of dedicated service in the United States Air Force.

What started out as "that neighbor on the corner" somehow turned into "text us when you get home" and eventually became one of those friends who moved away but never really left. You know the kind... the ones who we still talk about the cul de sac shenanigans even though they're halfway across the country. 😂

This custom piece was designed and crafted by JT using stunning pearlescent acrylic, carefully laser engraved and layered to recreate the insignia of the rank he proudly earned through two decades of leadership, sacrifice, and commitment. The finishing touch is a custom laser engraved metal nameplate, creating a one-of-a-kind keepsake worthy of an incredible career.

Over the years, Jared has worn many titles—Airman, leader, mentor, husband, father, neighbor, and friend. While the Air Force may be gaining a retiree, the rest of us are gaining a guy who no longer has an excuse for not answering group texts about football, or making it back to Omaha more often. 😆

Thank you, SMSgt Martin, for your service, your sacrifice, and for representing our country with honor for the past 20 years. We are incredibly proud of you and grateful for the friendship that came from what started as simply living down the street.

Congratulations on your retirement! May your next chapter include fewer early mornings, fewer inspections, and absolutely nobody telling you where to be at 0600.

Meet Easton... our Shop Boss, quality control manager, snack inspector, and part-time athlete model. His resume is impressive for a 4-year-old.
