October 21, 1964, in the Milwaukee Braves' Board of Directors voted to ask the National League for permission to move to Atlanta, but legal action from Milwaukee County officials delayed the move until 1966. The Atlanta Stadium Authority had a 25-year lease agreement with the team for the new, soon-to-be-built Atlanta Stadium. Despite the vote, a restraining order obtained by Milwaukee County officials temporarily prevented the Braves from submitting their request, and the team ultimately had to play the 1965 season in Milwaukee before officially relocating

October 21, 1892 in Dedication ceremonies for The World's Columbian Exposition also known as the Chicago World's Fair was held, but the fairgrounds were not actually opened to the public until May 1, 1893. The fair continued until October 30, 1893. In addition to recognizing the 400th anniversary of the "discovery of the New World" from the European perspective, the fair also served to show the world that Chicago had risen from the ashes of the Great Chicago Fire, which had destroyed much of the city in 1871.

October 21, 1925 in Celia Cruz, was born at 47 Serrano Street in the Santos Suárez neighborhood of Havana, Cuba. The form of her name used on her passport was Celia Caridad Cruz y Alfonso. Cruz became a Cuban singer one of the most popular Latin artists of the 20th century. Cruz rose to fame in Cuba during the 1950s as a singer of guarachas, earning the nickname "La Guarachera de Cuba". In the following decades, she became known internationally as the "Queen of Salsa" due to her contributions to Latin music. She had sold over 10 million copies, making her one of the best-selling Latin music artists.

In 1960, Celia Cruz moved to the United States where she later joined the Tito Puente Orchestra. Her flamboyant attire and magnetic personality meteorically expanded the group’s fan base. The group was central to the new sound developing in the 1960s and ‘70s—music born of Cuban and Afro-Latin mixed musical tradition—which came to be known as “Salsa.” A new record label, “Fania,” was launched, devoted solely to the genre.
