It's May 1st and here in Volusia County that means its Sea Turtle Nesting Season!
Nesting Season lasts from May 1st until October 31st every year.
Here's how Nesting Season will affect your beach visit:
Vehicle Access Hours are now 8am - 7pm.
Vehicles will be allowed on the beach at 8am OR after completion of the Nesting Survey. If the Nesting Survey is completed before 8am, vehicles will still only be admitted at 8am.
Vehicles MUST exit the beach by 7pm OR sunset; whichever comes first.
Fill in holes and knock down sandcastles before you leave!
Nesting sea turtles and hatchlings can become trapped in holes and sandcastles, so be sure to fill in holes and smooth out your sand castles!
Only use RED lighting/flashlights when walking on the beach at night.
Sea turtles use light from the moon to navigate. Bright lights such as flashlights and lanterns can confuse a nesting turtle and hatchlings. Never spotlight a nesting turtle or hatchlings!
