A seamless transition as my passions exceeded my own space and needs, added with the resurgence of vintage decor demands.Located at our home,a rural setting in south central Iowa, our barn is brimming with an immense selection of inventory. The surrounding area (aka, our yard) is an ever- expanding space of outdoor items- yard art, rural finds, wood, iron, etc. Most often comment shared,”You have a li

ttle bit of everything here!” I strive to maintain a vast selection of unique and in-demand marketable items. The odd,the strange, the somewhat creepy, are not uncommon finds. This is a genuinely authentic antique shop, with a current flair. Plan a trip and explore my collection of vintage, collectables, antiques, salvage, and of course, junk.

“One of my ex wives wanted a bat skeleton….” He was an interesting customer from Connecticut, traveling wherever the road leads, living in his car. I know what you’re assuming, but he was exceptionally clean and well groomed, and he smelled nice, too.Very intelligent and conversational….a disabled Naval veteran, he shared. For 1 hour and 15 minutes,he scoured my selection of books (I have many),purchasing 17 of my best volumes. Prior to his departure, he shared a short video of his AI invention, which has been submitted for patent application.Over my head.
I never know what walks through my door…. I’m a good listener.
“ We are all somebody from somewhere”.
Open today,10-5.🤔

AMISH story……In response to my letter last week,I thought I had best get in a visit. They were not at home, so I assumed they ventured to Arkansas for that visit.I moved along to the Beachy property to purchase eggs, and found just the sons were home. One an older teen, and a young, but capable 8/9 year old. A man had just purchased a hog and Levi was going to get the water boiling ,for he and his friends to come back and do the butchering. I’m really uneasy about children conducting business with their parents gone,as is their grandmother. But,that is their new way of life with the popularity of selling fresh meat, eggs, milk, cheese, etc. The Hispanic population flocks to their home each day, boosting their livelihood.I learned there was a wedding in the community, and most everyone was attending. That may have been where my family was.The little Beachy son asked if I still wanted robin’s nests… of course, I replied, even though I have a large supply. He was so happy when I paid him.Levi told me they had rescued an owl with the broken wing and we’re trying to care for it,but were unsuccessful. He asked me if I was interested in those feathers, as I do purchase them. I explained it was illegal to possess them, and told him just to go lay to rest. I couldn’t resist driving down the road where the wedding was,so here are some photographs.

On Saturday, I received a letter from my dear Amish family, which certainly caught me by surprise. We had never exchanged mail previously; our communications were typically in person or via Daniel's phone calls. I was taken aback by the letter's length and the level of detail provided about each child. With school out, they are now occupying their time playing outside, interspersed with chores, of course. Lori also shared that Katie and Ivan had contracted whooping cough, and baby, Susan, only coughed a little, so her mother was uncertain whether she had also experienced the illness. Lori further informed me that they are planning a trip to Arkansas this week,to inspect their newly purchased property and decide on the location for their home. They have agreed to allow a new schoolhouse to be built on their property, which will enable their children to walk to school instead, of the buggy ride 4-5 miles, they have followed for years. Indeed, a significant change is looming in our lives. I have been aware of their plans to relocate and be closer to family members, gaining more affordable land to support their life. Most of the children are very excited to move, although little Daniel is a bit apprehensive. They have visited and love the area, and will have cousins to play with and school nearby. They have a wooded area on their new property, so they are excited to explore. I’m truly happy for all of them. I have always felt badly, with their current location, as they are rather isolated from other Amish families, and relatives were far away. I have been treasuring every visit that I have with them, not knowing when this will end. They can go ahead and move prior to their house being built, as the AMISH will always take care of others in the community. I plan to visit tomorrow, and hope they aren’t leaving for Arkansas tonight. They usually travel during the overnight, when they ride a great distance. Just a few weeks ago, Lori told me they could still move this spring, but they may wait till the end of summer. I know it’s important for them to finish and start each school year on schedule. All I can do is treasure my time, grateful for each hour, before we become simply pen pals.❤️
