Current project: learning to live with lacquer.

This mobile tool chest will eventually have a smaller toolbox that rests on top, and is constructed primarily of MDF and pine, finished with black acrylic and polished lacquer.

Three tiers of shelves completely collapse to form one unit that can be easily transported and set up in seconds. Premium pine, polished and waxed. Walnut inlays. Pivot hinges. Foam feet. Seatbelt webbing buckles hold top platform securely in place.

This collapsible shelf ended up being one of my best pieces.

Made from premium white pine polished and waxed to a buttery-smooth natural satin sheen, and recycled furniture parts, this compact two-level shelf was made to fold in on itself for easy transport.

When open, the top platform locks in place with furniture connectors, ensuring the side panels never move, maintaining support for the shelves below.

Each shelf is attached using pivot hinges, and when they’re raised, the side panels can fold in to hold them securely in place. Latches on the side panels can be fastened to button up the entire thing, and the top panel can then be strapped to the back of the frame, making this shelf an entirely self-contained unit, easily transported in any vehicle, taking up as little space as possible.

Additional details include: inlaid walnut, strategically placed to cushion points of pressure or friction; thick foam non-slip pads on the bottom of the frame to help keep shelves level on uneven surfaces; Velcro dots to hold shelves secure in upright position; recessed openings to accommodate furniture connectors when top platform is attached to the back of the frame; routed grooves to help pivot shelves stay in place when in the lowered position; and thick, tightly woven seatbelt webbing attached to quick-connect buckles to hold top platform securely in place when in collapsed position.

All of my projects are custom jobs. Pricing will vary. Message me for details.

I made this flattening jig out of an aluminum picture frame and a fold-out laptop stand. All that’s left is to test it out!

Just finished this outdoor cat house for the feral little monster who refuses to leave my patio. It’s water proof and insulated, with two double-pane skylights to let in the sun. At least she won’t freeze this winter!

I found this handmade chest on the side of the road last year and finally got around to fixing it up. I added new hardware and handles and an interior hinge support to keep the lid in place when opening. I applied a dark glaze over each face to really make the imperfections stand out, before finishing with paste wax for a silky smooth satin feel. It has Avi’s stamp of approval.

My latest project was finding a way to make use of some crib parts I’d acquired awhile back. I wanted to give Avi a way to easily look out the window, and increase the storage for my shoes/boots. I came up with this simple bench design and it turned out great! I had to learn how to upholster, but I think I did pretty well for my first time. It helps when the pieces have already been finished. 😉
