These decoupaged horseshell crab shells were inspired by a recent trip to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where the beaches were scattered with naturally molted horseshoe crab shells and classic seaside cottages were surrounded by lush hydrangea gardens and dogwood trees. I was fortunate to bring home three ethically collected shells, and this artwork was created from one of them.

Beautifully hand-crafted oyster plate featuring eight real oyster shell "wells" set around a square porcelain white platter with beaded rim. A vintage hand-painted porcelain sauce bowl with flowers accents the center with quartz beach glass filling the plate bottom like melting ice. A single 7mm pearl adorns one of the oyster shell wells.

Each hand-selected 3 inch Pacific oyster shell gets ground down on the back to make it sit properly on the plate, the hinge is then touched up with black and brown paint, and finally the shell is painted with a glossy sealer to enhance the shell's colorful nacre interior which gives it a fresh-shucked wet look. The sea glass "melting ice" has also been sealed with a high gloss resin.

The result - an oyster plate so fresh looking you can almost taste the cool salty oysters!
