I airbrushed a water-based glaze, then fired it with a high-temp clear on top — and watched every single color disappear in the kiln.

The fix?
Low-temp clear glaze when using an airbrush. Apply it by hand or brush instead, and high-temp works just fine.

The pieces that teach you the most are the ones that don’t make it.

Born and raised in Kyoto, Japan, I grew up surrounded by quiet beauty—traditional streets, temples, gardens, and the simple elegance of nature. Kyoto taught me to notice the little things: the texture of earth, the changing seasons, and the beauty of things that are imperfect and natural.

That feeling became the heart of my pottery.

Through The Way of Clay, I create pieces inspired by my Kyoto roots, with natural shapes, earthy colors, and a simple, organic style. Each piece carries a little of Kyoto’s peaceful spirit—quiet, timeless, and connected to nature.

My hope is that when you hold one of my pieces, you feel a small moment of that Kyoto feeling in your own home. #陶芸

I had such a great life in big island Hawaii for 3 years!! I had amazing pottery studio in my backyard and I was doing pottery in the jungle! I loved loved my studio in Hawaii. I’m always carrying my island vibe with me. A lot of my pottery has tropical feeling.
