The part of the process Pinterest doesn’t always show you 🤍 Cabinet installation takes time, patience, and a lot of little details coming together behind the scenes. From the first cabinet going up to seeing the whole space take shape, trust the process. The pretty finished photos are worth it, but so is everything that happens in between.

When I'm designing a kitchen island, I'm thinking about so much more than its size or what countertop to put on it.

I'm looking at how the kitchen functions, how people move through the space, where appliances and sinks make the most sense, and how everything relates visually.

I love creating beautiful sight lines and symmetry when possible, and I'm ALWAYS considering function. Sometimes moving an island just a few inches or reconsidering the placement of a sink can make a big difference in both how a kitchen looks and how it works.

And then there are all the other questions. How many people need seating? Is there enough room for multiple cooks? Where will the traffic flow? Can you actually reach the middle of the island to clean it? 😊

Every kitchen presents a different set of opportunities and challenges, which is one of the things I love about designing them.

Mixing cabinet hardware is a great way to add interest and personality to your cabinetry, but there’s a fine line between intentionally mixed and visually busy.

Here are 3 things to keep in mind:

1. Keep the finish consistent. Choosing one finish helps different hardware styles feel connected, especially when you’re mixing k***s and pulls.
2. Mix shapes and profiles. You don’t need every piece to look identical. Combining different silhouettes can actually make the design feel more layered and collected.
3. Let function guide you. K***s, pulls, and cup pulls can each serve a different purpose. Consider the size of the door or drawer and how it will be used when deciding which hardware belongs where.

The goal isn’t for everything to match perfectly. It’s for everything to feel like it belongs together. ✨

A home is really a collection of little moments.

Where you wake up, make your coffee, get ready, gather around the kitchen, or finally sit down at the end of the day.

I love thinking about a home this way when I design. Not just how each room looks, but how it will actually feel to live there.

Because the best spaces should make the everyday feel a little better.

I had the incredible opportunity to attend a Painting Workshop in Belgium. The first week, a friend and I explored Amsterdam, Brussels, and Bruges, and the second week was spent painting with Lori Putnam Art as our instructor.

I still have a long way to go, but I love painting for so many reasons.

It makes me see the world differently.

I notice colors and shapes I might have completely missed before. I notice the way sunlight hits an object or a landscape. I noticed clouds ALL the time now. I pay attention to how colors work together, how warm or cool they are, how saturated they are, and how they change as they move into the distance.

I’ve also learned how much is possible with just a few colors on a pallet. Mixing paint to get exactly what I’m seeing is part science part instinct, and sometimes part frustration.

But that’s also what I love about it.

Painting makes me slow down, look more carefully, and really notice what’s around me. It can be challenging and incredibly rewarding, and I came home with a camera roll full of places I’m already looking forward to painting.

A kitchen island is more than just extra counter space.

Its placement, proportion, sight lines, and function can completely change the way a kitchen feels and works.

When everything is thoughtfully considered, the space feels connected, balanced, and effortless.

A mudroom has to work hard, especially for a busy family. 🤍

For this space, we needed to fit in lockers, plenty of shoe storage, a bench, and a large closet for cleaning supplies and all of those not-so-pretty things every household needs somewhere to put. And, of course, it still needed to feel beautiful and intentional.

One of my favorite things to hear from a client is, “I would have never thought of that.”

Because that’s really what good design is about. Most of my clients come to me with great ideas and a pretty good sense of what they love. The hard part is figuring out how all those ideas work together: how much storage you need, where everything should go, what you see when you walk into the room, and how those little decisions come together to create one cohesive space.

That’s where we come in. ✨

This mudroom is still in the design phase, but I already love where it’s headed. I can’t wait to see this one come to life!

I will always be a sucker for the combination of wood and stone. There is something about layering natural materials that instantly makes a home feel warm, grounded, and timeless.

The texture of the stone paired with the warmth of the wood fireplace and beams brings so much character to this space without making it feel overly busy. Natural elements have a way of making a home feel both elevated and comfortable—and that is always the goal. 🤍
