How to Fill Our Days After Retirement

In June 2018, we officially and completely retired, sold our home in East Texas and moved south to the Rio Grande Valley. We had close friends here who had moved several years before and he told my husband (Chet - the ‘C’ in CMPensAndStuff) to “come on down and I’ll teach you how to use the lathe.” With nothing else to occupy his time, he went, learned the p

rocess, how to finish a product and how to start over when it comes apart on the lathe. The first task I suggested to Chet (by the way, I’m Martha - the ‘M’ in CMPensAndStuff) was to make bowls for all of our children, adult grandchildren and my sister for Christmas. He was up to the challenge!! 14 bowls later, Christmas was complete for 2018!! Then in 2019, I suggested “why don’t you make all the kids pens this year”. So, he did. And, we hand delivered them all in the summer of 2019 from Ft. Worth to The Colony to Mt. Vernon, TX, to Tulsa, OK to Ft. Walton Beach and Daytona Beach, FL. It was a great trip. So, here we are in the middle of a pandemic in 2020. No craft shows to attend. No farmers markets to share our wares. How will we market all of these products so we can buy more wood?? UPDATE: SOLD!! - Another one is in the works.

Here's another piece that never made it to the shop. We sold it to someone at a recent craft show. It's made from a Banksia Nut which is only available in Western Australia. Chet pour acrylic tinted with a bit of purple over the nut and then put it on the lathe. The result is amazing. The Base and top spindle are from Walnut.
